Chili on a Chilly Night

Hello everyone!

I thought I'd share a recipe that my husband made the other night.  If you like homemade chili, then you'll really love this!  Some women are married to men who are great carpenters or busy executives, I'm married to a firefighter who loves to cook!  Lucky me!  Ha!  So, follow along and try this at home.  It's quite delicious.

Here are the ingredients you will need.

There is one item missing from the pic above.  It is this.

This ingredient (beer) is optional.

Chop up all your veggies (peppers, onion and garlic).

Then add to your pan with a little olive oil to saute them.

Add ground beef.

Brown the ground beef.

Drain well.

Pour meat mixture back in the pot to continue cooking and add tomato sauce and diced tomatoes.

Now you can pour in the beer if you're using it.  My husband says it adds flavor.  Hmmmm....... (Don't worry the alcohol cooks out of it.)

Now add your seasonings (chili powder, cumin, red pepper, salt and black pepper).

Stir and simmer.

After it is heated through, you can add the beans.

Stir well and continue heating until ready to serve.

Now it's ready to eat!

We serve it with shredded cheese and sour cream on top.  Yum!

This is my husbands creation.  He did not copy this recipe from someone else.  Some of the measurements are not exact because he is known to cook "to taste".  I told him that in order to share this recipe I needed some measurements.  Ha!  So, this is it.  Hope you'll give it a try (with or without the beer).

Ingredients:

2 lbs lean ground beef
whole bell pepper, diced
whole pablano pepper, diced
1/2 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans chili beans (undrained)
1 can tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatoes
~ 3 Tbsp chili powder
~ 1 tsp cumin
~ 1/2 tsp red pepper
~ 1/2 tsp salt
~ 1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 bottle of beer
olive oil (just enough to coat bottom of pan)

Follow cooking instructions above.

Thanks for stopping by!

I love making chilli and have never added a beer to it~but it sounds like it might be worth a try. It looked so yummy~we add shredded cheese and sour cream and then have nacho chips on the side. Oh, and the diet starts tomorrow.

I love chili and so do my kids. I always use the Bush's beans too. You are lucky you have a husband who cooks!

A fireman..... and he cooks? That makes him HOT! (I have the carpenter husband, so dream of the one who cooks). I'm making his chili Thursday WITH the beer. Why not right? We love chili so I'm open to experimenting a bit.

I'm calling this Fireman Chili- not too catchy but its fitting.

Yes, lucky you. I am one not married to someone who will cook. Never tried beer in my chili. He uses all the same ingredients I do almost.

You are SO lucky, Kelly, but I think you know that! The Great Dane has one recipe and one recipe only, and it starts with a box of KD and a pound of ground beef. I won't eat it.
I love the idea of the sour cream on the chili!

Hi Kelly: I'm going to try the chili for sure. I know my husband will love it. As a matter of fact, I've got a casserole of beans baking in the oven right now with most of those same ingredients. And the beer you used is made right in my back yard, almost literally....Judy at GoldCountryCottage
