The Little Red Barn Sale

Hello everyone!

This weekend, I had the good fortune to go to a friends house where she was holding an arts and crafts sale at her home.  She started doing this last year and it has grown substantially ever since.  She lives in an old historic home in Norcross, GA.  It's the perfect place to have this sale!  Her property is just beautiful and she is in a good area to attract alot of customers.  I brought my camera this time so I could take you all along with me too.

Upon entering her property, you're greeted by this colorful homemade sign hanging from a giant old oak tree in her front yard.

There were a lot of vendors participating in the sale.  Let's go look around
.
She had a lot of furniture to sell.

There were also these darling iron sculptures made from scrap iron and hardware.

There was a little bit of everything at this sale.

Art

Succulents
Pottery
Painted Furniture and Pillows

Take a look at this unusual art too.

Like I said, there is a little something here for everyone.

Even the ever popular chalk paint was sold here!

She named her sale after the little red barn that sits on the back of her property.

Are you wondering if I bought anything?  Well, yes I did!  I bought this slip covered chair that once belonged to my friend having the sale!  Ha!

My son is modeling it for you.

All in all it was a very good day!  Afterwards we took our son to the Lego store.  He was doing some early birthday shopping.  He will be 11 on Thursday! Then we came back home and helped our oldest son get ready for his senior prom.

Doesn't he look handsome?  They both looked great! I was very proud.

I wish I had gotten a better picture.  We had to take pictures in a hurry because they had dinner reservations waiting for them.

Hope you all had a good weekend too.

My bottle drying rack arrived this weekend too.  So I'll show you that along with where I put my new chair in my next post.

Thanks for stopping by!

Flowers and Veggies

Hello everyone!

This week is coming to an end very quickly.  It has been a busy one, but getting ready to be even busier for me next week! This weekend is my son's senior prom and next week is my other son's birthday.  Lots of things happening around here.

One new thing that is happening around here is that my husband has decided to plant a small vegetable garden in our back yard!  He bought all of the supplies and plans to get started this weekend.
First, though, I wanted to update you on how some of my favorite flowers are looking around here.

My climbing roses are blooming like crazy!

I wish they would stay this way throughout the summer.

And......my favorite of all is my pink peony bush!

Just look at it!

I may have to just snip this off and bring it inside where I can look at it all day.

There is one more bud on it that hasn't opened yet.  If you look closely, you can see ants on it.  Yikes!  I hope that doesn't mean anything bad!

Lastly, my flowers on the porch are just now starting to spill over the planters too.

As I mentioned, my husband is going to start a small garden for us.  We've never had one before.  This was all his idea!  I'm really excited about having one.  He plans on growing some tomatoes, peppers, and squash to name a few. It won't be very large.  Here are some of the materials he has ready.

The lumber for the frame.

The top soil to fill the frame.

Make that LOTS of top soil!

Some ingredients to make the soil ready for planting......

Soil Conditioner

Peat Moss

And no garden would be complete without a little compost with cow manure!

Gosh, I'm not so sure I want to eat what comes out of the ground with this stuff mixed in!  Hmmmm........

So, it will be a busy weekend with getting this garden started.  It will be fun keeping track of it though!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dish Displays

Hello everyone!

I can't believe that it is almost the middle of the week already.  Where does the time go?

I decided to share something with you that I've had in my kitchen for quite a while now, but never posted. It's something that enabled me to display dishes while using them and added some personality to what would've been a standard builder grade kitchen.  I don't know about you, but that is just not my favorite style kitchen!

This is probably my favorite part of my kitchen.  I simply removed the cabinet doors (some even had glass) and painted out the cabinets to look like a hutch.  I chose black because of the other black accents in the room and I wanted a classic black and white kitchen with touches of warm wood and burlap.  This jump started the whole thing!

The only way for this to work was to keep all of the dishes white against the black cabinets and they had to usable too.  So, I have my everyday dishes in here as well as my china.  Our glasses are in here too.  I can't tell you how much easier it is to put dishes away from the dishwasher now!  I attached clamp lights above the cabinets to showcase the dishes at night as well provide task lighting while cooking.  I like these even better than the under cabinet lights!  The under cabinet lights quit working and needed to be replaced anyway.

The stove area was no exception.  I removed the cabinet doors and painted the interior black.  This works more as a display area.  There is a light above it too.

I used the space above the stove for pitchers, creamers and a soup tureen.  Again, I stayed with the black and white color scheme.

This is something that anyone can do in their own kitchen to give it some personality. It basically only costs a can of paint (a quart).

Now you know an inexpensive way to change the look of your kitchen without having to buy new cabinets!

What I'm Loving Right Now

Hello everyone!

Just thought I'd share a few things that are making me smile right now.  Nothing much. Just simple, yet pretty.

I'm loving my burlap draped ottoman with pillows in the kitchen.

You may recall I moved my chair out of here to use in the family room.  So, I had this empty spot that needed a little something.  I remembered that I had the ottoman (that I wasn't using) in my basement.  So, I decided to rescue it and see if I could make it work in here.

So here it is.  Simply using what I had and it fills an empty corner.

Another thing I'm loving is this magazine cover.  It embodies the look that I love all in one picture!

And last but not least, I'm loving this french bottle drying rack that I just ordered.  I can't wait for it to get here.  I'll show you where it ends up after I receive it.

So, that's just a bit of what I'm loving these days.

Just thought I'd let you know that things are getting ready to be very busy around here too.  May and June will be a full calendar.  My posts may not be as frequent as a result.  But I will be visiting all of you.

Thanks for stopping by!

Random Changes

Hello everyone!

Thanks so much for all the nice compliments on my sitting room makeover.  I am still very happy with it.  Every morning, I come downstairs and notice how much bigger and brighter it looks now.

Something I've discovered that works well for my house is the use of neutral colors that flow from room to room.  For years, I had bright colors of red, yellow, and apple green.  I loved it at the time. However,  I don't live in a large open floor plan style home.  So looking back at those colors in my home, it made it feel even smaller and a bit cluttered.  I'm liking the restful changes and adding more texture rather than color.

Here are a few more random changes that I've made.

First, I decided to remove the area rug from under my dining room table.

It was a dark brown traditional style rug and was really too small for the space.  So, I passed it on to a friend of ours. It now has a new home!

Remember in my sitting room, I had to switch chests?  The one that was originally in there moved to the family room.  That was really a blessing in disguise.  It has the most wonderful molding on the side that you never saw when it was in the sitting room.

See what I mean?

Now, I can enjoy the whole piece, not just the front.

I moved my rose oil painting in here too.

It used to hang above the wall hutch.

Since I moved a chair out of my family room into the sitting room, I needed to replace it.  So, I painted the chair that was in the kitchen (not being used) a nice white.  Remember, it used to be black.

I also never showed you this awesome pillow I found at the consignment store I consign with.

It is a Ralph Lauren pillow!  The cover comes off for cleaning (bonus!).  It came with a soft down filled insert too.

It didn't cost me anything.  I used some of my credit I had with them.  Love that!

Finally................you KNOW I had to do it!

Des, this one's for you........I changed up my secretary just one day after I posted it for you all to see!  Ha!  I'm not alone in doing this.  Did I mention names?

I decided I wanted  more white on the shelves, so I replaced some of my plants with monogram plates.  Ahhhh......much better now.

Well, that about wraps up the changes I've made around here.  I'm sure it won't be the last time either.

Thanks for stopping by!
