New Color in the Dining Room

Hello everyone!

This week, I've been working on a little project at my house.  While you've been looking at pictures of the home tour I posted, I've been repainting my dining room!

I love the new color so much, and wish I had done it before my photo shoot a few weeks ago.  Do you suppose I could get my dining room re-shot?  LOL!

Here is full room reveal.

Remember, it used to be painted in a beige color, called Decatur Buff.  You can see it here.  Now, it is painted in Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore.

I love how much lighter it is.  But most of all I like how it flows better with the rest of the house now.

Here is a view into my foyer.

I like how the walls just flow together now.  No more jarring beige to make this room look heavy compared to the rest of the house.

I also painted my wall shelf in here.  With the lighter color on the walls, the dark stained wood stood out like a sore thumb.

I love how Swedish this looks now.  I actually dry brushed the color on.  It is same color grey paint that is on several pieces of furniture throughout my house.  It's called Fawn Brindle by Sherwin Williams.  It's a favorite grey color of mine.

You can see, here, how the dry brush technique gives it a worn look.

I love how the grey wicker looks in here too, so I brought the hamper style basket in here and placed it under the shelf unit.

Here, you can see the wall sconce lit up.  It fits right in with these soft colors.

Another grey basket was added to the sideboard.  I like that it's a statement piece with the roman numerals painted on it.

So, now, I believe this is my new favorite room in the house.  It truly captures the Swedish country look that I love so much.

Thanks for taking the time to visit.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  16. I adore it. I wondered how much longer the beige would last. I am slowly repainting most of the tans and beiges in my house. Your new wall color looks fabulous with your white cabinets and your entry. I bet you can't stop looking at it.

  20. Kelly, I clicked on the photos of your previous wall color and noticed you painted your chandy too. What a difference. It's amazing that paint has such transformative power. Now the wheels are turning in my head. I was thinking about replacing a couple of light fixtures but now I'll just paint them.

  23. it looks beautiful. Sometimes those magazines alter the photos and change the colors significantly. Qperhaps if you express your thoughts, they might edit your photos to look more like your paint job. It doesn't hurt to ask, right?

  41. I love the wall color and especially the Fawn Brindle that's on the shelf! Can you tell me what finish the Fawn Brindle is...eggshell, gloss, satin? I would love to do this to a couple of pieces that I have, but never know what finish to tell them when I go to buy the paint.
    Thanks for the inspiration!
