Hello everyone!
Are you still tired from all the 4th of July festivities? It was fairly quiet at my house. We went out to dinner and then came home and watched my neighbors shoot off fireworks. They had some professional looking ones too! We cooked out last night and then I made an apple cobbler in honor of the holiday.
During the extended holiday weekend, I decided to do a makeover to my coffee table. For years, I've been pondering the idea of painting the top of it. I've taken baby steps and last year painted the legs white. I thought that would be enough, but then I got the idea of adding a soft blue to the top of it. Since the table is surrounded by so much white, I felt I could use a pop of color in the center of the room to jazz things up a bit.
And, I'm very happy with the results. I used the same blue color that I used on the chest in my foyer along with a dark wax to tone down the brightness of it.
It is much too baby blue without the dark wax! The color is CeCe Caldwell's Memphis Blue.
I like how it no longer blends in with the wooden floor.
I also recovered the chair cushion in my antique chair. I cut a piece of vintage grain sack to cover it. The good thing is that I still have plenty of grain sack left so I can display it or use it for future projects.
I added my vintage crate (from Decor Steals) on top of my coffee table and filled it with glass jars of white flowers.
It looks very country prairie to me now.
So, what did you do during this long holiday weekend?
Thanks for stopping by.
~ Kelly ~
Oh I love it, what a neat table and I love that blue. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNothing but try to close my ears to the big fireworks being just around the corner. Lord! I like how the table looks. We might just edge you into color like someone wading slowly into water. But you do like your neutrals, I know.

That looks great painted blue and I do love that crate. Love the chair with the grainsack makeover, too.
ReplyDeleteLove the makeover…the new color adds charm and character to the table. It looks great in your living room!
ReplyDeleteI love it and the little crate is perfect!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePretty with the blue top. We just hung out at the house and did our own fireworks. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI love old leather chairs, the feel of the worn weathered leather is so so different to new......& I spend ages restoring old leather chairs..

Kelly, the table looks great with that hint of blue. It is such a pretty shade! We had a quiet Fourth of July at home. We cooked out and watched the city's fireworks display from our front yard. No crowds...no traffic. Perfect view!
ReplyDeleteI am madly in love with your blue tabletop....it looks fantastic! The chair with the grainsack is super also. Our neighbors had some mega fireworks...both Friday and Saturday. For five. hours. each.day. Not kidding! Our dog, who previously did ok with fireworks, was a wreck. They were awesome....just too long! (To me, anyway!) But, it's all good. Have a terrific week, Jane
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your sweet coffee table and have been looking for one like yours for a long time. I did not think it could get prettier but you have done it with the blue. Love it. Love her chippy legs so sweet.
Kris
You have given me inspiration to tackle my coffee table. The painter spilled something on the top of it and it took all the paint off in one spot. I try to cover it up with coasters or flowers, etc. It's a beautiful cherry wood, but I am leaning more to Country French. It's round with a glass inlay in the center. I love your s much that I am giving it a lot of thought.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks nice with your crate and the flowers.
Have a great week.

Kelly your coffee table has always been a favorite of mine...love the way it looks with the top paint that pretty shade of blue and love your chairs makeover too!!
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly the table turned out so pretty!! I just love it! I never would have thought of making just the top blue and I adore it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kelly! I have a brown coffee table too that I have some baby steps planned for. Like you, I'll paint the legs white. The top has this great shiny finish that's perfect for the kids to do artwork or eat on...so I'll leave it for now but I have to say seeing yours blue!!! You got me thinking! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are adding a little color. Nit looks nice on the table. Nothing but rest for me. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI like the blue top, Kelly.
ReplyDeleteMe? I spent the Canada Day Holiday (July 1st) at a children's celebration taking my grandsons around to the bouncy castle etc etc. It was a lot of fun, and we ended the day watching the fireworks over the harbour.
I really love that hint of color in your room. The blue looks so pretty surrounded by all your lovely whites.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done!

ReplyDeleteYou are a little blue this summer, but in a very good way.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue on the coffee table!
ReplyDeleteLove the coffee table color. It would go perfectly with my sofa. I did not do much this weekend. Went up the street for a burger. Wash, iron, that kind of stuff. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteYour table looks great with the blue top! It adds a nice touch of color. I like the crate with the flowers too. We spent the 4th at home doing fireworks along with the rest of the neighborhood. :) I also worked on my kitchen table makeover we talked about. I just have 2 more coats of polycrylic to add to the top, then it's done! Thanks again for helping me decide what to do with it. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly, that was a great change and adds so much to the room.
ReplyDeleteWe worked this weekend, but see the light at the end of the tunnel. We met our daughter at the old house and she and her hubby loaded a U-Haul with all the back yard stuff we couldn't bring with us to the new place.
Next weekend is the Yard Sale, and then I can close the book on that chapter.
Kelly I love that blue! Looks like a new table. Ah the power of paint!!
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with your coffee table. The addition of the blue adds a bit of life to the room! The chair looks great as well! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteYikes, that's cute. I love it with the squishy pillow on your couch. I was browsing for a magazine the other day to take to the lake and low and behold, I saw your house. Congratulations to you!
