My New Appliances are Installed!

Hello everyone!

Well, I'll tell you what.  It was a crazy afternoon yesterday.  The appliance delivery people arrived and I had to call my husband home from work so he could be here to disconnect our current appliances and reconnect the new ones.  We were trying to save money by doing it ourselves.  Well, my husband didn't have his cell phone on him at the time, so I kept trying to reach him to tell him that he needed to come home because they were on their way.  Then they arrived and he still wasn't here and never answered his phone!  So, long story short,  he did make it home in time and spent a long time getting everything set-up.  But there was one problem, our refrigerator is HUGE!  It sticks out further than our other one.

So, we may decide to send it back and pay more for a counter depth refrigerator.  My kitchen cooking area is not very large.  So, every inch counts!  We will go looking tomorrow at possible alternatives.  Someone advised me that we should get one of those, but I never knew how much a difference it would make.  So, I should've listened to them.

Ok, enough with the drama.  Onto some pictures.

I haven't even used my range yet.  I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

Here is the big elephant in the room!  She's pretty, but juts way out into the room.

I'll tell you something else, stainless steel appliances made my kitchen look darker!  I'm so used to the white appliances.  So, I edited this room.  I removed things from the top of my cabinets.  I cleared the counters of things I didn't use much.  And most importantly, I'm changing out my back splash with white subway tile next Monday!  I can't wait to get that done.  It will be the icing on the cake really.  The beige tile is too dark and doesn't contrast much with the counters.

So, I'll be sure to share MORE kitchen pics when that is done.  I'm sure you're waiting with bated breath!  Ha!

So, the appliance saga continues.............

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by.

~ Kelly ~

  1. Oh, I like your new appliances. We got the counter depth, but it didn't make much of a difference to me in the kitchen since the cabinet is not built around it like in the newer homes.

  2. I've been looking forward to seeing your new appliances and it's always a bonus to see your pretty kitchen! I never thought much about a counter depth fridge, but I guess they're worth looking into. I think everything looks great and I can't wait to see your subway tile! It will make it so light and bright in there. I adore that rug in front of your sink too!

  3. Love your new appliances! Sorry to hear the frig will have to be returned for a counter depth one though. I can't wait to see how your kitchen looks with the white subway tile. My back splash tile is very similar to yours......

  4. We used a counter depth refrigerator in our former home that had a really small kitchen, and I will say it looked a lot better, but the amount of storage was noticeably less. If you just keep the basics and shop often, you'll probably be fine, but if you love condiments, have leftovers regularly, and buy a lot of bulky vegetables like lettuce, the fridge will always be packed to the brim. We relied heavily on the garage fridge for the overflow.

  5. Kelly your kitchen looks fabulous and yes the white subway tile will be beautiful with your counter top color. I had to laugh when you said your husband didn't answer his cell phone. mine is the same way...he has one but for one reason or another he never answers it. Can't wait to see more pictures!

  6. Kelly, everything looks fantastic! I love the stainless steel appliances and when you add the backsplash, you are going to be so happy. I will warn you about the counter depth fridge...they hold much less food. Do you have an extra fridge? We had to get another one for our garage.

  7. Your new appliances look great! I know someone who has a counter depth fridge and they don't like it because they can't fit a pizza box or something of that size inside. Maybe you would never need a deep fridge and it won't matter. Just wanted to mention it. Funny you are taking out your backsplash and we are installing a very similar one in our kitchen. But we do have cherry cabinets, not white. We are tackling ours tomorrow.

  9. Hello!!Found Your Blog through another Blogger that I follow,Villabarns & as I'm sure Your aware of,She has a link to Your page,On Her site..So here I am :) After surfing around Your page,I realized We share a lot of decorating interests,So obviously I love just about everything that You've done to Your Home because if I lived there,I probably would have done the same thing, too.I sold My larger Home just under 3 years ago & moved into a small lease Home (With option to buy) that I had stumbled upon.Although I was considering moving in the near future,I was really just kind of "Browsing" to see what was out there & how much I could expect to pay.I had stainless appliances at My House,Including My "elephant-sized" LG French Door Fridge.I now have apartment-sized,High-end integrated appliances,In My Lease option (Brand new Ikea cabinets in gloss white,"24 Lieberherr Fridge/Freezer,"19 Meile dishwasher,"24 Convection oven with built-in rotisserie attachment & glass induction stovetop built into the granite countertops) This kitchen was the major deciding factor in making the jump to move into this House..The remodeled kitchen!! I kept My Stainless Fridge & it in the basement to hold "overflow" or anything I don't absolutely need to have on hand. But because of also going from Stainless to integrated appliances that most have gloss white panels attached to,That match My kitchen cabinets,I completely understand on a personal level what You mean by Your new stainless appliances making Your kitchen seem smaller to You.One of the BIGGEST pieces of advice that I ignored but will follow in the future,If I ever have to buy another Fridge again,Is to make sure to buy a Counter Depth Refrigerator especially if You don't live in a mini-Mansion (I prefer smaller Homes) My Sister has a decent-sized Home (5,000 compared to My 1,200 sq ft) & She recently upgraded Her appliances & also choose stainless. She ended up sending Her new Fridge back & buying a Counter Depth version because even in her larger Home,It just jetted out too far into the room.Trust Me,It makes a HUGE difference & it IS WORTH the extra money that They charge for Counter Depth models. You wouldn't be sorry once You bought one & realized how much of a difference those "4 make!! I do still love what You've done & even though You think it jets out too far & makes Your kitchen seem darker to You,I personally thinks it looks timeless & beautiful! Can't wait to see the white subway tile done,Especially because I have the same color Granite as You do that also has the same color backsplash,As Your about to replace.I was considering doing the same thing so it will be great to see it done before I start popping tiles off the wall :) You really did a great job,Stop being so modest & enjoy Your rewards that are a result of Your hard work :)

  10. They have such a professional look and really upgrade the look of your kitchen. My mom had the same issue as you with her recent refrigerator purchase. She ended up switching it out to gain back those few inches. Our kitchen backsplash tile is very similar to yours and I'd love to change it. I can't wait to see your subway tiles. I love the photo from the dining table looking in - so beautiful. Xo

  11. Your kitchen is looking wonderful and can't wait to see the subway tile! We have a counter depth french door fridge and we love it. Whatever concession we had to make for the room loss was not noticeable to us. We are empty nesters but still host holidays and parties. What I love with the french doors is the room I have in the length to put a long platter in with no obstacles in the way. For me, the appearance was more important going with counter depth and I knew I could adjust with the space. Good luck!

  12. The kitchen looks great. I love the back splash you have but I understand your decision. When I do my long overdue kitchen remodel I will definitely do the subway tile. I can't wait to see the finished kitchen.

  13. Love your kitchen Kelly! Your new appliances are gorgeous!
Funny all men are like that I think. Mine doesn't answer his either.
My kids always ask why doesn't dad answer his phone or return messages. Maybe because he hasn't it turned on...

  14. Years ago in our former home we pretty much did everything you're doing to our kitchen and it made a HUGE difference. You will love it kelly, and don't fret about the fridge. If you get a cointer depth and you don't have another fridge somewhere you may have to shop more often but you know what? I live 30 minutes from the nearest market and I shop at least 2 times a week. No biggie (at least for me).

  16. I totally understand about the stainless behemoth! We recently got a new one, too, 30 cu ft, and while I had been set on a Liebherr (german made) which is tall, skinny and counter depth, I had to give up on it. Most counter depth ones call for a sacrifice: usually a loss in cu footage. That Liebherr was so tall that I would have needed a ladder to reach a lot of it! As is, I can't reach items on the top shelf of this LG very well, and I have no idea if the butter keeper has butter because I can't see that either. Also, it costs considerably more than the LG. My ulterior motive is to get the wall ovens and cooktop ripped out next and then move it over there to the ovens' space. I have an armoire full of glassware that I would like to park in it's present spot, and it does not stick out so far, about the same as the adjacent cabinets. So -- just something to consider... Since your cabinets are not built out around the fridge, the counter-depth model might not really save that much space.

  19. The stainless looks great Kelly..Our old fridge stuck out a couple of inches..Not a big deal..I think we had deeper counters..New stuff always seems to make one change the old stuff to make it match or look better..The white tiles will look great..Enjoy!!

  20. I wish I had read this before I had invested in our appliances. I also found out that stainless makes a kitchen much darker. I have yet to buy the microwave and dishwasher. I plan on making the dishwasher white, preferably with the cupboard door cover up. Not sure what to do with the microwave over the stove though.

  24. I'm glad you have the option of switching out your fridge if that's what you decide, Kelly. Your kitchen looks so pretty, and the new tile is going to really brighten up the space! Love the hanging pot rack!

  25. Such beautiful new appliances. I just mentioned to another friend, that I wish I had the guts to do my kitchen cabinets white. They are 36 yr old light oak, dated and boring. I hope you will like the next phase of changes that your are planning. Blessings, Cindy xo

  26. It's good that you can return the fridge if it's not making you happy. I think that after a few days, you will be used to the stainless; it takes some time to get used to things that are so different from what we had. I think the stainless looks fabulous in your kitchen, and the new white subway tile will look awesome!

  27. Well they look great, even the elephant. The subway tile is going to change everything, and I AM looking forward to it!

  28. They look great! We just got another counter depth fridge after our 10 year old one died a couple weeks ago. Just be ready to not have as much space inside though. We got used to that and it helps that we have an extra fridge in the garage, but that is something to think about if you send this one back. Your kitchen looks beautiful!

  29. Your kitchen is so pretty, Kelly. I know it's exciting and a bit stressful when things change. I hope you'll soon be happy with a change in the refrigerator.

  30. we have a regular size too, and our kitchen is half y our size. lol. You get used to it, but from the pictures, it does not look bad at all.

  31. I didn't notice that my counter depth fridge holds less than our old fridge but we had just a basic fridge and nothing fancy before. I love my counter depth! I'm like you. Every inch counts.
If you are shopping for just the 3 of you, you should be fine.
I love it all so far.
