Subway Tile in the Kitchen

Hello everyone!

I'm so excited to share the finished product with you now that my kitchen is almost complete!  It took about 3 long days to get this project done but I'm very happy with it and wish I had done it sooner.

We started out removing the old beige tumbled tile off the wall on Sunday.

Then, on Monday, a friend of ours installed the tile.

The tile adhesive had to set overnight.  So, I waited patiently until Tuesday afternoon to get it grouted!

We used glossy white 3x6 tiles from Lowes and warm grey grout.

In this picture, I haven't yet done the final polishing of the tiles since the grout has to set another 24 hrs!  Ugh!  So, it will be shinier and cleaner when I do that.  But I wanted to go ahead and show you what it looks like anyway.

Here is the new kitchen!

I could've gone darker with the grout but I played it safe with a light grey.  I was afraid of it looking too busy in a small cooking space.

Here is a night time shot.

Now, the only thing left to do to our kitchen is to replace our scratched up sink with a stainless steel undermount.  We have to find one in the same shape.  That is what is holding us up.  It's not a standard shape sink.

I smile every time I come in to this room now.  It feels like I'm in someone else's kitchen!

I wanted a classic, functional, yet stylish kitchen and I think I finally achieved that.

I hope that you all have a great weekend.  It is supposed to be in the high 60's and sunny here all weekend.  Can't wait!

  18. Kelly- That is fantastic! I like the lighter grey grout, too. Like you, I think the dark grey might have been too much. You did a great job!! Trying to pop in to visit a few people here and there as I can- xo Diana

  19. Oh Kelly that backs plash looks fabulous!!! Wow I just love it. I know what a wonderful feeling it is to walk into a room and be excited about what you see. Felt the same way after we repainted the kitchen and added the bead board. Instead of walking into a room I hated I walked into one I loved! Congratulation and enjoy your weekend smiling in the kitchen!

  25. That looks so pretty and fresh, Kelly! A classic choice for sure and they really suit your kitchen. I would love subway tile but I don't want to put them up with our 17 year old counters and I can't afford new counters right now so I'll have to wait lol.
