Hello everyone!
With Fall just around the corner, I decided to start making some subtle changes around the house. With that, came some color changes. Around this time of year I always love earth tones. I guess because they remind me of Fall. They also transition nicely into the holidays. I love neutral colors and find them very easy to live with. So, some of the summer colors (lavender and blue) took a hiatus. Now, I'm craving white, cream, grey, brown and a touch of metallic gold. That may sound boring, but I love the mix. It's both elegant and rustic at the same time.
In my sitting room, I first painted my clock. It was a cool blue and now it's a warm brown.
I painted it in Coco from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I went over it in a dark wax afterwards. However, I still wasn't happy with it since it seemed a bit flat to me. So, I gave it more dimension by dry brushing on some French Linen (grey) from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint that I already had on hand. That did the trick! It toned down the brown just enough and gave it more of a driftwood effect. It looks like weathered wood now.
Then, I decided to switch around some pillows. (That's nothing unusual for me!) But, I still wasn't satisfied with the room until I moved some chairs around. I tried different lay-outs until I finally settled on this one.
I brought in a bench with a ruffled cover and positioned it in front of my slip covered wing back chair in the corner.
Then, I did something that I haven't done in years. I closed the glass doors on my antique secretary. It instantly made the room feel larger.
I pulled up an old cane chair that has been painted white and added a fur pillow.
This chair is a perfect fit since it can be scooted under the desk part. This also enlarges the room.
So, those are my latest changes to this space. I've been fluttering around the house, lately, tweaking things. So, I'll be sure to share more changes with you in the near future. Be sure to follow me on INSTAGRAM too. I post almost daily there!
Hope you all have a great weekend.

Well, I ended up buying more paint. This time in a blue tone. Probably be painting that silly mint green hutch after I see Andrew.

Nice changes. Love the darker clock color. Now just keep on fluttering!
ReplyDeleteYou're so talented, Kelly! You nailed that clock - it looks fabulous! The room looks so nice, with its muted palette. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFun changes, kelly! I like the brown clock- and it is warmer looking for the cooler months. Just done decluttering around here! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI have a secretary, actually two. A small scale antique one I. The guest room which I intend to paint this year, and a beautiful one in the den. I usually keep the doors closed. The one in the den holds dozens of my hand written journals.
ReplyDeleteYou home is such a perfect reflection of you and your charming personality! I guess it's just natural to dress ourselves AND our homes in the same style and manner.
I always enjoy visiting you!
I love your changes for fall. It is so elegant and yet cozy. So very lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhile most of us are adding warmer colored flowers and throws to our decor, you're actually taking out the paint brush! You go! Everything looks lovely and perfectly suited for a transition to autumn. The paint job on the clock is perfect! Good creative thinking on that one Kelly!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh so pretty Kelly. Swooning over your pics today. That ship lap wall is so pretty.

ReplyDeleteThanks,
Cathy
I don't think your fall color choices are going to be boring at all. I love those colors. It's amazing how something as simple as closing the doors on your secretary can open up a space like that. Love the weathered wood look your clock has now. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe shiplap truly adds so much character to the room!!! Super job on the clock as well!
ReplyDeleteLove the changes Kelly, the clock turned out great. The chair in front of the secretary is pretty. Hope you are feeling well.

I like the clock makeover, especially for this time of year with the warm brown.
ReplyDeleteLove the clock makeover!! I've been away from blogging...my brother was in a bad motorcycle accident down in Tennessee 3 weeks ago and was just transferred a couple of days ago back here to Ohio. We have been taking care of his kitty and his yard. He will be in a wheel chair for 3 months or more. My heart hasn't been on blogging, but I hope to be back soon.
