Farmhouse Architecture

Hello everyone!

Are you happy that it's the weekend?  Well, hopefully, you're able to put your feet up and relax a little.  I thought I would share with you some pics from a construction site my husband and I visited recently.  We're always popping in new subdivisions and checking out new homes for future reference.  We stumbled upon this one, just the next county over from us, and probably only 15 minutes from our current home!  It was a small street with nothing but large farmhouse style homes on large flat lots being built.  We fell in love with it!  The homes are quite amazing.  So, I snapped some pics to share with you (and for my own personal reference).  You have to keep an open mind though since they are clearly unfinished.  The lots are bare with no landscaping, no lighting, no appliances, unfinished floors etc.  But, it looks great even at this stage!

This is what we first saw driving up.

We love the white exterior and metal roofing over the porch.  We also like the board and batten siding.

I'm all about details!  These little awnings over the windows on the garage were so cute.

Of course, it had a lovely large front porch to enjoy too.  We will only buy a house with a front porch.  We're officially spoiled by ours!

Let's go walk around back!  This house just keeps getting better and better!  Love the back covered porch with beautiful railings and ceiling fans.

But wait, there's more!  It also has a fireplace.

Can you see it?  It's hard to see from this angle.

If you also want to grill out, here is a small outdoor area that is uncovered.

I believe it's off the eating area of the kitchen.  Very logical!

It was locked or I would've taken you inside.  But, the one next door isn't.  So, let's take a tour.  It looks like this outside.

We didn't love the outside of this one as much because of the roof design.  We like more angled roof pitches.  This one is too flat for our liking.  But, the inside was not disappointing at all!

Lots of hardwood flooring (yet to be stained) and lots of beautiful planking on the ceilings and walls throughout.

I liked the cedar beams used for shelving beside the fireplace.  More casual that way and warms up the white everywhere.

Open concept kitchen to the family room.  I like the window niche that the breakfast table sits in.

This is what you see from the breakfast table!

The formal dining room is ample size and I love the board and batten trim.

My favorite part of this house was this little corridor that leads to the pantry, laundry room and mudroom towards the garage.  It was SO well thought out!

Check out all these shelves in the pantry!

The laundry room was huge which included a farmhouse sink and lots of built in shelving.

This is what you see just inside the door from the garage.  Isn't this perfect to drop your purse, coat and shoes right inside the door?!  I'm assuming they will add coat hooks to the back of the bench area.

Look at all that planking! The flooring is so practical too since it's brick.  Nothing too shiny and perfect needed in there.  The brick would hide a lot of what could get tracked in and hold up to a lot of foot traffic.

Back down the hall on the other side of the house is the master bedroom.  It is on the main level which I dearly want. Look at the pretty wood work in the trey ceiling.

Of course, you've got to have a barn door if you live in a farmhouse don't you?  This one leads into the master bathroom.

The walls were planked and had separate vanities.  The closets were located off this room too.  There were two HUGE closets that were both bigger than my one!

We fell in love with this amazing double person shower!  We are shower people so we would rather have all the bells and whistles in a shower like this one rather than a tub.

So..............as you can see we were pretty smitten with these houses.  They offered virtually everything and more we hope to have in our next house!  We don't need anything this large but we definitely plan on implementing some of these features in our next house.  Because we plan on growing old in our next house, we will we make decisions on whether our house will work for us or against us.  Right now, our current home will work against us.  So, moving is a necessity not a luxury.

So, now we have something to look forward to.  We kept the builder's name handy in case we need to contact him one day. These homes aren't like the cookie cutter homes that are going up in droves around us at the moment.  You can tell that they put extra time and thought into these homes.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Hi Kelly ~ I really enjoyed this tour! I love our farmhouse, and feel like we are home to stay (God-willing!) but I do sometimes dream of a place that is all "done." At our home, we have to do projects little by little over time. Our kitchen and bathrooms are ready for updating. These new builds are beautiful and have lots of character. They are also so clean. Lol. The first house we moved into was new construction and I remember it feeling clean for the first year and a half. (Could also have been because we didn't have kids yet ;) Thanks for sharing and hope your summer is going well! ~julie

  8. It is always so much fun looking at houses and dreaming about the 'what ifs', isn't it? I love several of the details in the homes-but, like you, am not fond of the roof lines in that one house.
Love the board and batten siding on the first house. We had cedar board and batten on our very first home...MANY years and MANY moves ago. xo Diana

  9. These homes scream 'Kelly, you need to live here!'

They're beautiful! I agree about the rooflines, but the inside of that second home makes up for it :).

  12. How cool that builders are starting to realize we all do not want huge open concept spaces. I love this home---I would be hard pressed to walk away! We have a lot of space now that the kids are gone, yet when we have family here, it gets crowded! I think we will stay put for awhile!

  18. Love your farmhouse Kelly. This is surely an outstanding example of the architectural advantage. Though you called it unfinished with no landscaping, no lighting, I think this is really beautiful with its outer and interior arrangement. Thinking of white exterior and metal roofing was appreciable as white is always peace loving and eye-pleasing. Thanks for sharing the attractive photos of the house. I was browsing for diving into some sites like quality windows and doors in Mississauga. Hence this was one of the best read ever.
