Playing with New Things

Hello everyone!

Lately, I've had my doorbell ring a few times with new packages.  So, I've been playing around to find a new home for them. 

I know you've already seen my original dough bowl that was once in my powder room.  That moved to the kitchen.  However, I spotted a dough bowl reproduction on Wuslu, before Christmas, and decided it offered a different look from my original one that I liked better.  The reproduction had deeper sides on it.  I decided to order it and see how I liked it. 

Turns out, I love it!  It looks amazingly authentic too. I filled it with old book bundles.

Also, from Wuslu, I fell in love with these little paddle chalkboards. They were sold as a set of three.  They are just like the one in my kitchen.

So, I hung one above my larger one.  The other two I distributed around the house.  I love how versatile they are.

In the foyer, I used one as a tray for my antlers.

And in the kids bathroom, a little reminder couldn't hurt!

 

Finally, I found a cute online shop advertised on some one's blog, called French Charmed. 

I found this zinc colored crown that I just loved.  It can be used as a planter or even for a candle (as I did).

Look who is sleeping on the sofa on this gloomy rainy day!  He has been like that all day.  Poor thing.  It's just too wet to play outside.  That means he will be begging us  to play with him tonight.  We can always tell when he didn't get to run around outside.  He will bring us his toys all night.  Anyone that has one of these breeds, knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about!  Ha!

Still working on the powder room.  I did get some of the items that I needed to finish it up, but not all of them. 

Hope you are having better weather where you are.  It is dreary here.  This is the part of winter that I don't like.

Farmhouse Style Powder Room - In Progress

Hello everyone!

I thought I'd show you the progress I've made with my powder room so far.   It has been repainted in BM Wickham Gray.  It is a very subtle gray and I'm happy with the results. I still need to replace the brass fixtures with chrome though.  So, just overlook that for now. 

You'll notice that the mirror looks different.  In order to capture the look that I was going for, it needed to be painted white.  I like how white and gray look together. I plan on adding a chrome towel ring on the wall beside the sink too.

I hung a cow portrait above the toilet and used a wire basket to hold paper guest towels.

This cow portrait became my inspiration for the overall style of the room.  I wanted a feminine farmhouse style powder room with some industrial touches.  But, where are the industrial touches?  Here...........

I decided not to sell the bar stools that I once used in the kitchen.  I used one in here.  I topped it with a piece of burlap and a galvanized tub to hold toilet paper.

On the large back wall, I hung an over sized antique mirror that, at one time, hung above the fireplace mantel.

This room was a bit of a challenge to photograph due to all the mirrors!  I tried to keep myself out of them.  Ha! 

So there she is in all her new "gray" glory!  So, as soon as I get the rest of the new finishing touches (chrome faucet, light fixture, tp holder, towel ring and wire wastebasket) I'll be sure to show those.  They should be purchased very soon!

On another note, I haven't been able to comment on every one's blogs that I usually do.  I know a lot of people have been having this same problem.  I am going to try some changes on my end to see if that corrects the problem.  In the meantime, please know that I'm not ignoring any of you if you haven't seen me comment!

I'm Loving White

Hello everyone!

I made a few changes (what's new - right?) to my sofa and coffee table that I wanted to share with you. 

I added these white candles and faux sea sponge (?) to a white platter.  As I mentioned in my last post, I love to sprinkle candles around the house in the winter. 

It instantly adds warmth, but also brings the white color that I love so much to the coffee table. 

I'm still keeping to my theme of natural elements to decorate with. 

Another change that I made, was to add  jute webbing to some white pillows that I had.

I love the added texture and subtle pattern it gives. 

One other room, I made a subtle change in, is the kitchen.  I added another white platter with some textural items there as well.

Is that another candle?  Yes, it is!  I guess I've covered about every room now.  ha! So, along with my candles, I'm loving white right now.  It seems to be a dominant color in all my rooms and soon the powder room will fit in with that scheme too.

My Little Secret - No More

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you so much for all of your great paint color suggestions for my guest bath.  I hope to make a decision soon on it. 

I was going to just show you a new vignette on my sideboard in my dining room. 

During the winter months, I love using candlelight everywhere!

So, after I put away the Christmas decorations, I decided to change up the sideboard by adding these candles.  I love how romantic it looks in here all lit up at night.

So, I'm snapping away, and noticed a trend happening in every room.

There it is!  Don't you see it?  It's a Lego play set.  Don't you have one on your dining room table too?  This one is a police station that my son got for Christmas.  It was built in here and left.  Yep!  I think my son thinks this is it's new permanent home.

They are everywhere in my home!

On the kitchen table.

In his room.

On his dresser.

In bins.

Lined up in front of books.

Why he even has a new Lego game (yes now they make games) that he hasn't even played with yet!

Since my home has been taken over by Lego's, I've come up with an acronym for them. 

"Little Evil Gizmo's On Steroids"

If you have boys, then I'm sure you're all too familiar. These things multiply!  I am quite used to them by now since my oldest son is now 18.  I figure I have to live with them a few more years and then my youngest son will probably move on to something else (just like my oldest did).  So, I'm not going to complain.  One day, I'll probably look around and miss these days when all of his toys are spread around the house. 

So now you know.  Whenever I take pics to show you, just remember all the Lego's that I had to move or crop out of the photo.  Ha!

Decisions, Decisions.......

Hello everyone!

I don't think that I've ever shared my half bath (guest bath) with you.  That's probably because it's hard to get good pictures in there.  It doesn't have a window and is small in size (being just a half bath and all). But, today, I figured why not. 

Now, immediately, you will notice something that bothers me.  It is green!  I once had green EVERYWHERE.  It was my favorite color to decorate with (next to red).  However, times have changed and now I want a more neutral colorscheme.  So, I'm thinking about repainting this bathroom a VERY light shade of grey. 

You see, light grey would work well with the dark brown floors, black trimmed mirror and red wall art (if I chose to keep it, which I probably will).  I love grey mixed with those colors and best of all, it would be neutral!

I've actually never had this bathroom any light color before.  It was RED in a former life!  Ha!  I must say though, it's a bear to paint because of the need for a tall ladder and the sink and toilet get in the way.  I sort of dread doing it, quite frankly.  However, if I don't do it, nobody will.  Do you get my drift?  Ha!

So what do you think?  I'm only going to repaint this thing one more time!

Got milk?

Hello everyone!

Are you familiar with the online company called Wuslu?  Once you sign up with them, they send you an email for a "deal of the day" every day.  You can purchase it that day unless it sells out.  Some of their items are mass produced and others are one of a kind.  I was able to purchase this old milk crate from the 1940's from their site. 

I placed it on top of my pot rack in my kitchen.  It adds to that industrial feel that I have going on in there. 

You can see the inscription of the dairy farm it came from.  It is very heavy too.

The inside is filled with wire cubbies that once held the milk bottles.

So, if you decide to buy something that is really old and one of a kind from Wuslu, act fast.  These  sold out quickly!  They may offer them again though.

Now, I just wish these milk crates would make a come back WITH the milk service too!  I grew up having milk delivered to my house and it must've been wonderful for my mom to not have to go out and grab milk at the store all the time.  I can't tell you how many trips I have to make to keep our fridge stocked!  Ha!

Let's belly up to the bar!

Hello everyone!

Do you remember when I said I had something new in the kitchen that my pine chest might be jealous of?  Well......this is it!

Do you see it?  It's that industrial looking, yet warm and comfortable swivel bar stool. Can you tell I really like it?  I can only show you one at the moment because its mate is in transit on the good ole Fed-ex truck.  I'm anxious for it to get here. 

I love it's iron legs and wooden seat. I called it warm because of its wooden seat. 

And that wooden seat, right there, swivels around!  Cool huh?  Plus, it is adjustable.  If you turn the seat round and round, the seat will raise to a bar height.  Right now, it is set at a counter height. I got it at World Market. 

Do you see my son sitting there?  He's playing his X-Box.  His latest obsession.  He will be sitting on these bar stools.

I know I just got the other metal bar stools in the Fall, but when I saw these, I realized this was a better match for my kitchen.  I decided to keep one of them  for use in the cooking area of the kitchen if I should need it.

So now I will be selling all of  my old  bar stools  at the consignment shop.  I have been doing quite well at the consignment shop lately.  Did you know that I have almost a $200 credit with them so far?  That is the result of cleaning out my basement of home decor and Christmas decorations that I wasn't using anymore.  I will use that money to pay for these new stools!  If you have a consignment shop near you, you should really consider using them!

Next, I will show you something that I purchased on Wuslu.  It's in my kitchen too.
