Antique Sideboard Makeover

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a nice Valentines Day yesterday.  We celebrated a day early since my husband had to work then.  He was good to me and bought me roses, candy and took me out to lunch.  It was fun!  After the kids got home from school, we gave them their treats (including the dog).  Ha!  Now, I really need to walk off all those bad calories from the sweets I've been snacking on.  Yikes!

I managed to do another project with things I already had on hand.  I repainted the sideboard in my dining room.  I wanted a softer color, so I chose the same gray color that I've used on other furniture makeovers.

I am so glad that I made this change!  It gives the room a much softer feel now.

It brings out some of the carving in the wood too.

(That's a shadow, not the paint)

It has very old hardware that I left on it too.

The front legs are twisted, which I love.

Here is the before (a pic from last Fall).

And here is the after.......now!

Paint color:  Sherwin Williams, Fawn Brindle (#7640)

Sink Skirt

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share an easy project that I did over the weekend.  I've been wanting to do this for a very long time, and finally got around to it.  I love how it turned out.

First, I must share the "before" picture.

Now, here is the "after" picture!

Do you like it?!  It was very easy to do.  I had all of the materials on hand, so it didn't cost me a dime.  I love when I can say that!  Ha!

I just took a drop cloth and cut it to the measurements of my cabinet opening (double the width for gathering) and then hemmed that.  Then I hemmed an opening at the top for the spring rod.  I ironed it and after removing the cabinet doors, I simply hung it up!  Easy Peasy!!

Here is a close-up.

Most of the time, I see these done under apron front sinks.  I originally wanted one of those when we had our granite counters installed, but later learned that it required our cabinetry to be altered.  So, I decided against it.  However, having this skirt under my sink is the next best thing!

I like how it softens the hard lines of the cabinets.  My husband even likes it!  I didn't expect that from him, but when he said it looked old-fashioned, I knew I had hit the mark!  Score!

To see where I got all of my inspiration for this, you can go check out these blogs and look at their sink skirts.  I think mine is a pretty close match.  If you don't already visit these blogs, get ready to stay there awhile.  There is soooo much eye candy!

Country Home

Hello everyone!

The other day, I won a wonderful giveaway from Penny at The Comforts of Home.  I love reading decorating magazines and that is what she was giving away!  I was thrilled when she said I was the winner. You see, I'm a bit of a magazine addict. I have an entire file system set-up with folders breaking down various decorating styles and rooms.  Inside those folders are cut-outs from magazines.  That way, I can refer back to my favorite pages and look at them again if necessary.

Just look at what came to my door!

Several back issues of Country Home magazine.  I just loved that magazine while it was in circulation.

I immediately began flipping through them to mark the ones I wanted to look at first.  That's how I roll!  Ha!  Here are just a few of my favorites.

Carrie Raphael's home

Atlanta Bartlett's home

A cottage style bedroom

An artist's cottage

So, as you can imagine, I will be busy looking at these for a long time!

Thank you Penny!  If you haven't visited Penny's blog before, I encourage you to do so.  She has a beautiful country home of her own and often shares many home projects on her blog. You can find it here.

Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Jeanne d' Arc

Hello everyone!

As you may already know I've become very fond of the Jeanne d' Arc style and their products.  I recently purchased a pillow cover (for a bed pillow) from French Larkspur.  It is one of the prettiest covers I've seen.  The image is of a french account book. It's very subtle and vintage looking.

It's made of a wonderful linen fabric and has a tie closure.

I was very proud to see this label on the back too (and I'm not really a "label" person)!

Here, you can really see the fabric better.

I put it in my chair in the sitting room.

I like the contrast of the white against the black.

I was smitten with the way it was packaged too!  It smelled like lavender when I took it out.

Do you get excited when someone takes the time to dress up your package for you?  I sure do!  She included another french book page and sepia toned post card with a hand written note on it.  All tied with ribbon and delicate tissue paper.  All of these cute little butterflies came floating out too.  I love details like that!  Thanks Tracey!

Decorating with Numbers

Hello everyone!

While everyone else was watching the Superbowl last Sunday, I was painting numbers on  chairs in my kitchen!

It all started because I was browsing Pinterest and came across this picture.

I love kitchens that have a farmhouse/industrial vibe to them.  So this one caught my eye.  I noticed that the chairs weren't all that special, but how they were numbered were!

So, I decided to embark on my own adventure and add numbers to my chairs too.

Well...........you get the idea!

I love how it turned out.  It didn't cost a dime either.  I already had the number stencils and the black craft paint.

I went ahead and removed my chandelier shades until my new barn light comes in.  I hope I like it here.  I don't usually purchase a light fixture without seeing it in person.

And, because I couldn't leave well enough alone, I changed up the vignette on my grey cabinet too.

Do you decorate with numbers too?

Thanks for stopping by!

New Goodies

Hello everyone!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.  I certainly enjoyed catching up on my sleep this weekend.  It was nice to not have an agenda of any kind.

I wanted to show you a couple of new items that just arrived.  I ordered them from my favorite online stores, Wuslu and Antique Farmhouse.  They should thank me for all the free advertising I'm giving them!  Ha!

If you're a follower of Miss Mustard Seed's blog, then you know how she has joined efforts with Wuslu in picking out a favorite item to promote each month. This was one of those items.

It's this really unique looking candle holder !  I actually spotted it before I saw it featured on her blog and knew I just had to have it.

You can see that I placed it on my mantel.  Hope you're not tired of seeing pictures of it.

I love the vintage look of it.  It is made of iron and glass.

And, remember the pillow that I ordered from Antique Farmhouse?  Well, it arrived the same day too.

I'm very pleased with it.  It now sits in the little side chair in the family room.

Today, Wuslu had a fantastic deal on a light fixture that I had been thinking about for my kitchen.  It was so affordable that I just had to grab it!  It may still be available, if you're interested too.

Isn't it great?  It is a barn style pendant light coated in black chalkboard paint!  I don't know if I'll actually write on it, but I could if I wanted to.  Ha! I'll probably put my old chandelier in my master bathroom.  I'll remove the shades and spray paint it to match my other light fixtures in there.

Well, that's my "show and tell" for today!  Now, it's time to get ready for another week.  I've got to take my 18 yr old to the dentist tomorrow morning for some fillings.  Not a good way to start off the week.

Thanks for stopping by!
