To Mothers Everywhere

A Mother.......

When you're a child she walks before you,

To set an example.

When you're a teenager she walks behind you,

To be there should you need her.

When you're an adult she walks beside you,

So that as two friends you can enjoy life together.

A Little of This and That

Hello everyone!

I thought I'd share with you a few things around here that are both old and new.

Let's start with the old.......

I changed my dining room centerpiece to something more simple using things I already had. I went down into my basement and grabbed this wire urn, that I bought years ago, and some Spanish moss.  I filled the urn with the moss and then set a small fern plant inside it.  Voila!  Instant satisfaction and best of all, free!

Now I'll share with you the new...........

I ordered a set of these key/lock plates from Decor Steals (formerly Wuslu).  I thought they were very unique and would be cute sprinkled around the house.

I used one on top of a stack of magazines on the coffee table.

Then I used another one on the wall above a mirror in the sitting room.

And finally the last one over a picture in my upstairs hallway.

Can you believe that this is my very last rooster in the house?  He should feel very special since he lasted the longest!  Ha!

And finally my last new treasure is this white ceramic tureen I found at a consignment store.  I placed it in my black dish display cabinet in the kitchen.

                                                     I love white tureens!

So, there you have it.  Just a little of this and that.  Hope your week is going well so far.

Thanks for stopping by!

Our First Garden

Hello everyone!

My husband has completed our garden now.  So, I thought I would share with you the steps he took to get it that way.  In a previous post, I showed you the materials and soils he would be using.  Now, here is the plan in action!

First, he built the frame.

Then, he measured out the size of the frame onto the ground and edged that area.

Next, he removed the grass inside the edged area.

Now, you can see that all of the grass has been removed.  Oops!  He almost nicked our TV cable.  That was a close call.

It looks like we're digging a grave or something!  Now, the frame has been put in place.  He had to level it out (because he wanted it perfect).

We chose our vegetables to plant and bought them at a nursery.

While they were waiting to be planted, he filled the frame with soil and all the conditioners etc. that was needed.

As you can see, he made rows for the vegetables.  I thought he should just leave the soil level, but he said he that this method would ensure a better crop.  I guess we'll soon find out!  Ha!

Finally, the vegetables were planted, making sure to leave plenty of room around them for growth.

He added a little seven dust to keep the bugs out too.

Here is what we planted:

Sweet Pepper
Jalapeno Pepper
Poblano Pepper
Hot Banana Pepper
Okra
Squash
Cucumber
Tomato
Carrot

This should be plenty for us!  We made sure to place the garden in a very sunny spot and bought a new hose to reach it so we could keep it watered easily.  It's very convenient to get to since it's right off our back deck!

And do you want to know what our dog, Max, did the whole time this garden was being built?

It's not hard to figure out!

I'll be sure to keep you posted when we start to see results from our first crop!

Thanks for stopping by!

Leaning Mirrors

Hello everyone!

I love mirrors.  I have several in my home. However one, in particular, that is different from all the rest, is this leaning mirror.

As you can see, in this picture, it used to be in my master bedroom.  I loved it there.  But ever since I got my new chair for my family room, I contemplated using it in there instead.

You see, I've been looking at many inspirational pics on other peoples blogs.  Here are some examples.

This pretty blue one is from Dreamy Whites.

This one in the corner is from In the Fun Lane.

This gorgeous mirror framed in metal tiles is from Dusty Lu.

This extra large mirror is from a readers home featured on Cote de Texas.

And finally, this wooden mirror is from The Old Painted Cottage.

I've only used my mirror on a plain wall before without furniture surrounding it.  I once had it in the foyer and then in my bedroom.  But I'm really liking it in an unexpected place giving the room a more open and airy feeling.

So............here is mine now!

I'm liking it between my two white chairs and it reflects the fireplace across from it.

I even gave the coffee table a face lift with some purple hydrangeas.

So, what do you think about leaning mirrors?  Are you a fan?

Now, I'm going to have to buy another one to replace it in my bedroom.  I miss it already!

Today is my youngest son's birthday.  We are taking him to eat at Zaxby's tonight because that is his favorite.  Ha! We will be officially celebrating it with cake and presents this weekend though.

Thanks for stopping by!

New Cottage Finds

Hello everyone!

As promised in my last post, I wanted to share with you where I used my new vintage bottle drying rack and slip covered chair.

I'm so in love with both of these.  It really made my Saturday to receive both of these in one day!

First up........my new chair.  Technically, it is not new at all.  It is an older chair that has a custom white cotton slipcover on it.  I am so happy to use it in my family room for extra seating.  We needed more seating for TV viewing, in particular.

I paired it up with the other chair already there.

I couldn't be any happier.  It's very comfortable too!

See what I mean?  Now you know why I just HAD to have it!

Next up.......the vintage style bottle drying rack.  I found this at LaurieAnna's.  I knew it was perfect the minute I took it out of the box!

I placed it on my painted gray cabinet near the kitchen table.

I hung some monogrammed coffee mugs on it.

I purposely didn't fill it full because I didn't want it to take away from the rack itself.  That is part of the appeal to me.

So.......what do you think of my cottage style finds?

This weekend we'll be celebrating my youngest son's birthday.  So, it will be his turn to "rack it in".  Ha!  Although, he didn't fare too badly, last weekend, at the Lego store!
Also, our garden is progressing nicely.  We're almost ready to start planting vegetables.  I'll be sharing pictures soon.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Little Red Barn Sale

Hello everyone!

This weekend, I had the good fortune to go to a friends house where she was holding an arts and crafts sale at her home.  She started doing this last year and it has grown substantially ever since.  She lives in an old historic home in Norcross, GA.  It's the perfect place to have this sale!  Her property is just beautiful and she is in a good area to attract alot of customers.  I brought my camera this time so I could take you all along with me too.

Upon entering her property, you're greeted by this colorful homemade sign hanging from a giant old oak tree in her front yard.

There were a lot of vendors participating in the sale.  Let's go look around
.
She had a lot of furniture to sell.

There were also these darling iron sculptures made from scrap iron and hardware.

There was a little bit of everything at this sale.

Art

Succulents
Pottery
Painted Furniture and Pillows

Take a look at this unusual art too.

Like I said, there is a little something here for everyone.

Even the ever popular chalk paint was sold here!

She named her sale after the little red barn that sits on the back of her property.

Are you wondering if I bought anything?  Well, yes I did!  I bought this slip covered chair that once belonged to my friend having the sale!  Ha!

My son is modeling it for you.

If you're interested in learning more about this sale, you can click on the following links:

All in all it was a very good day!  Afterwards we took our son to the Lego store.  He was doing some early birthday shopping.  He will be 11 on Thursday! Then we came back home and helped our oldest son get ready for his senior prom.

Doesn't he look handsome?  They both looked great! I was very proud.

I wish I had gotten a better picture.  We had to take pictures in a hurry because they had dinner reservations waiting for them.

Hope you all had a good weekend too.

My bottle drying rack arrived this weekend too.  So I'll show you that along with where I put my new chair in my next post.

Thanks for stopping by!
