Sink Skirt

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share an easy project that I did over the weekend.  I've been wanting to do this for a very long time, and finally got around to it.  I love how it turned out.

First, I must share the "before" picture.

Now, here is the "after" picture!

Do you like it?!  It was very easy to do.  I had all of the materials on hand, so it didn't cost me a dime.  I love when I can say that!  Ha!

I just took a drop cloth and cut it to the measurements of my cabinet opening (double the width for gathering) and then hemmed that.  Then I hemmed an opening at the top for the spring rod.  I ironed it and after removing the cabinet doors, I simply hung it up!  Easy Peasy!!

Here is a close-up.

Most of the time, I see these done under apron front sinks.  I originally wanted one of those when we had our granite counters installed, but later learned that it required our cabinetry to be altered.  So, I decided against it.  However, having this skirt under my sink is the next best thing!

I like how it softens the hard lines of the cabinets.  My husband even likes it!  I didn't expect that from him, but when he said it looked old-fashioned, I knew I had hit the mark!  Score!

To see where I got all of my inspiration for this, you can go check out these blogs and look at their sink skirts.  I think mine is a pretty close match.  If you don't already visit these blogs, get ready to stay there awhile.  There is soooo much eye candy!

Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I love it, Kelly! I have always loved sink skirts ~ whether in a kitchen or a laundry room. There is just something about them. Maybe it is the softening of some of the hard edges. Great job! You know you did a good job when the hubby likes it! : )

  12. I've been wanting to make a sink skirt too but haven't got around to it yet.

I noticed the rug you have in front of your sink....several months ago when I was looking for an antique grain sack to cover my den chair, a decorator in Texas contacted me and through her I was able to acquire 2 of them! One is being used to cover a den chair and the other one is draped over my linen slipcovered headboard....I will share both projects when they are finished.

  17. Hi Kelly,

I love it! Love the fabric you used too. I have always loved the look of a farmhouse sink and this is the next best thing. My neighbor debated whether to get one and was told by a few people that water dripped down and casued some cabinet doors to warp (never heard that before) I also noticed that you have a scale on your counter. My new interest is vintage scales and I just purchased one.

  25. I love it Kelly. May have to borrow this idea for the bathroom vanity. There are angled vanities, with a sort of dressing table between. I am thinking the skirt would be pretty nifty on the "dressing table" section.

    Thanks for coming by!

  31. I love the skirt! You have a great kitchen.

Yes, I am an American living in Kuwait -- for the past 17 years. Who woulda thunk. All because of a blind date in New Orleans 20 years ago.

I'm originally from Mississippi; grew up in TX and LA. My husband is American/Palestinian born and raised in Kuwait. The rest, as they say, is history. Never know what life has in store for ya, that's for sure. :)

Thanks for your visits. Have a great rest of the day. Tammy

  34. Luv it, Kelly! They do soften the hard lines of cabinetry, don't they? I put one beneath my "desk" area in the kitchen because I wanted to add more white to the room which is full of wood colored cabinets. ugh! Soooo...the next best thing was to cover some of those cabinets up with a pretty dropcloth skirt! :)

If you don't mind me asking- I love the rug- did you do that too?
