Hello everyone!
Thanks so much for all the nice compliments on my sitting room makeover. I am still very happy with it. Every morning, I come downstairs and notice how much bigger and brighter it looks now.
Something I've discovered that works well for my house is the use of neutral colors that flow from room to room. For years, I had bright colors of red, yellow, and apple green. I loved it at the time. However, I don't live in a large open floor plan style home. So looking back at those colors in my home, it made it feel even smaller and a bit cluttered. I'm liking the restful changes and adding more texture rather than color.
Here are a few more random changes that I've made.
First, I decided to remove the area rug from under my dining room table.
It was a dark brown traditional style rug and was really too small for the space. So, I passed it on to a friend of ours. It now has a new home!
Remember in my sitting room, I had to switch chests? The one that was originally in there moved to the family room. That was really a blessing in disguise. It has the most wonderful molding on the side that you never saw when it was in the sitting room.
See what I mean?
Now, I can enjoy the whole piece, not just the front.
I moved my rose oil painting in here too.
It used to hang above the wall hutch.
Since I moved a chair out of my family room into the sitting room, I needed to replace it. So, I painted the chair that was in the kitchen (not being used) a nice white. Remember, it used to be black.
I also never showed you this awesome pillow I found at the consignment store I consign with.
It is a Ralph Lauren pillow! The cover comes off for cleaning (bonus!). It came with a soft down filled insert too.
It didn't cost me anything. I used some of my credit I had with them. Love that!
Finally................you KNOW I had to do it!
Des, this one's for you........I changed up my secretary just one day after I posted it for you all to see! Ha! I'm not alone in doing this. Did I mention names?
I decided I wanted more white on the shelves, so I replaced some of my plants with monogram plates. Ahhhh......much better now.
Well, that about wraps up the changes I've made around here. I'm sure it won't be the last time either.
Thanks for stopping by!

I love all your changes, Kelly! Moving pieces and furniture around really helps me see things in a new light. I usually do it seasonally but you are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour new pillow is just lovely and I like the cabinet in your living room. Nice changes to your secretary, too!
Have a wonderful day!
XO,
Jane
Well, it is a good thing I didn't see that pillow first!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the neutral walls, darker colors seem to make spaces smaller depending on room size. I have an open space plan so I also chose neutral colors. Love that pillow!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Kelly! I love how you used the monogram plates in the secretary, I know since I have changed my style to what I now my home appears alot bigger, especially the kitchen! Love the pillow too!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks absolutely beautiful. I LOVE how the black chair looks painted white, great job!!
ReplyDeleteME change something just moments after posting a pic? Never!!! LOL Love all the changes you have made.... and your new pillow is very pretty!

Oops! Meant to add that I LOVE your dining room without the rug!! It looks so light and airy now :o)

Your floors are so pretty you hardly need rugs. The dining room is lovely sans rug.
ReplyDeleteLove the rearranging you've done, Kelly. When we moved, it was a great opportunity for me to go with the lighter look I'd been wanting. I had lots of color in my old house, too, and really like having this change now.
ReplyDeleteI've gone much brighter with my colours and furnishings in this new home, too. I love your changes, and your secretary looks great =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful changes Kelly! Your rooms flow so nicely and everything looks so bright and spacious. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteAll your changes look so pretty, Kelly! You've done a great job of lightening things up without making things so neutral that they'd be uninteresting. What you've achieved is light and bright and very homey looking--just lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kelly, I just love all of your wonderful changes! You know I've done a post or two about changing things and then changing them again, right after I posted. Sometimes, you just have to live with things a little bit to realize that it's just not working for ya! LOL! Either way, your home is always beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAhhh...just beautiful Kelly!~ You made the right decision in going lighter and brighter. I do remember all those colors you had before, which were beautiful. But NOT having an open floor plan could feel boxy and not airy at all. You got the look now that is PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty changes Kelly! And you're right, the molding on the side of that chest is beautiful!!! Enjoy your day, Gail
ReplyDeleteAll your changes look great Kelly. I love your pillow!
ReplyDeletePretty changes!!! You are blessed to have the gift of "giving things aways"... I would have hoarded the rug just in case I changed my mind... (which I always do) shhh!

ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
It's all lovely, but I have to say that I can see myself snuggled into that great arm chair, with the sweet little RL cushion at my back and a good book in my lap.
ReplyDeleteLove your changes Kelly.
ReplyDeleteOur dining room floor was bare for awhile, then I moved a sea grass in..I've been toying with the idea of rolling up the sea grass again. I love the look of your bare dining room floors.
Okay...everyday I pass by the secretary in the living and everyday I say, I really need to change it up. Today may just be the day.
Thanks so much for the beautiful inspiration!
It looks fantastic. The whole room - the chair covers, the lamps, the urn, the chest, the cushions the bureau - LOVE it ALL!
ReplyDeleteI love the changes and the lighter and brighter look!
