Sitting Room Makeover

Hello everyone!

I've been very very busy this weekend making over my sitting room.  I decided it was time to lighten and brighten it to match the rest of my home better.  I painted some furniture, painted the walls, re-arranged furniture and re-accessorized the room.  It looks completely different now.

First, I painted the walls Linen White by BM.  It is the same color used throughout the house. I moved the wall hutch out of the room and placed the chest between the two front windows.  I painted the secretary grey and moved it to the back wall.  Two slip covered chairs balance out each side.

I filled the secretary with old books, plants and silver pieces. A touch of burlap and some string add texture.

I had to switch the chests from the family room and sitting room since they are different sizes.  The one originally in here was too big to fit between the windows.

My black chair (minus the ottoman) moved to the opposite corner of the room.

This corner of the room remains  unchanged.  I am expecting something in the mail to place above the small mirror on the wall.  I realize it looks like it's hung too low right now.

The wall hutch moved to the dining room.

I like it in here much better.  I displayed some of my white dishes in it.

I made a couple of other changes to another room which I'll share later this week.

I don't really want to see a paintbrush for a very long time now!  That secretary was a bear to paint.  It had so many nooks and crannies and locks and drawer pulls and hinges and levers.  Whew!  I did not realize how much work it was going to be when I started it.  Btw, it was not made of any kind of fancy high dollar wood.  So I didn't ruin it by painting it.  Just thought I'd share that.  I know some people get upset about that.

Hope everyone had a good and productive weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!

~ Kelly ~

I really like how your sitting room turned out! I bet your secretary was a bear to paint, but it is beautiful and styled so nicely. I'm also loving the column in the corner with the plant. Your hard work definitely paid off!!

  16. Holy cow! I don't know how you do it. I've been trying to find the time to paint my living room cabinets for about 6 months now :)

Maybe when my youngest is in school, I'll get my act together. Or maybe I'll just continue to find excuses.

Everything looks fabulous! You've got great taste.

  23. No one should get "upset" if you paint something that is your own..I think everything looks great. Problem with painting my curio cabinet is that it IS good wood..and was my mothers..so I hesitate. Then...I noticed you did not paint your gorgeous wall shelf..and it looks great with the white. I have both the white and the natural wood mixed. However, I have my eye out for a lovely little desk like yours to paint and nearly had one this past Saturday but missed it by a moment!! :)
I'll keep searching. What a lot of work you went to and the results are gorgeous!!
