De-Summer-izing the House

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone who has been in the path of Hurricane Issac is doing OK.  It has been sad to see all the flooding and property damage caused by it so far.  We were spared the wind and torrential rains that were originally thought to come our way, but have been left with hot, humid, sticky weather now.  Yuck!

Now that September is near, I decided it was time to part with some of my summer flowers in the house.  I moved a few things around (nothing new, right?) and pulled out some more masculine accents to de-summer-ize my house.  That's my own made-up word.  Ha!

I'm still expecting a few things that I ordered, so things may change again after they arrive, but here is what I've done so far.

I painted my blue wire basket, black!

I have a different pillow planned for this chair after it arrives. I will place this one in another spot.

I just received this new jute pouf from Joss & Main!  Lordy, it was bigger than I thought.  I didn't use it where I was originally planning.  So it ended up here.

I know.....here is the kitchen.....again!  This is my LAST change!  I moved my black vintage stool to the end of the cabinet and I'll show you a few other changes I did in this room soon.

Hint.....
If you look v.e.r.y closely you can see a clamp light on my curtain rod.  Yep!  Love how it looks at night.  More on that soon.

So, basically, if you haven't been able to figure it out by now,  I've been adding more pops of black in my decor.  This should help warm up the spaces for the cooler months coming.

Are you making changes with your decor (other than Fall decorations) to prepare for cooler months?

Thanks for stopping by!

~ Kelly~

Love your changes Kelly! I have to try the clamp light thing. I have no recessed lights in my dining and I don't like just the chandy, so I use lamps but need something else. love the black of course also!

All of your changes look amazing. Love the pops of black you are adding. I am just adding a few touches of fall color, still super hot here, but I am hoping and believing for cooler weather soon. So glad you were spared with the hurricane. Hugs, Marty

That is the same basket that Ryan and Daniela gave me for my birthday, early. Mine is still blue. Love the changes and I need to start, too. So ready for fall.

I can't wait to "de-summerize" my home either Kelly. My mantle is somewhat bare because I removed my vase of summer flowers to use in the new guestroom....which look great in there btw! I hope to get stuff out of the attic over the weekend or by next week so I can start fall decorating. I bought some new things at Michael's to add to what I already had....I love fall!

I'm still on summer. maybe because the kids just went back yesterday or the fact that it is over 100 degrees here... but, most of all... the blog world of "seasons" moves too fast for me. it's like retail in the fast lane. I am still enjoying my sea shells and bits of summer. BUt I love how you added your bits of black. And you had just put that cute target stool in the kitchen and now I see something even better took it's place.

Your home is so pretty, Kelly and I love the additions of black. I like to use black as well. I'm trying to decide whether to keep my living room curtains white sheers, or to add back in some blue paisley curtains. I love that your home is so neutral and yet interesting.

I think every room looks better with hits of black. Your spaces look lovely. I need to de-summer my home also =)

I wish to God could do some canges but now I am starting to pack, again, to move. Our settlement on the new house is 9/28! Unfortunately, this house isn't sold. I love all your pops of black! I can't wait to get IN the new house and DECORATE it:):) XO, Pinky

I find all your rooms to feel warm even as they are, Kelly. Love your touches of black. I am glad to see it around again. I just bought a black scrolly tray/basket at the antique mart and decided I was going to leave it black.

Thanks for the curtain opinion, Kelly. I think you are right about the white with blinds. I really love how your rooms flow and that would work with our dining room and family room too.

Love the jute poof! That is a good word, de-summer-ize. I need to do a bit of that around my house as it is always summer here. (Which is ironic because where I live it is literally misting right now and it is labor day weekend :))
