Bakery Sign

Hello everyone!

I'm so glad it's Friday.  It has been a long week.

I took my son to get his braces off the other day, but unfortunately, the orthodontist found a small gap between his teeth that still needed a little more tweaking.  Ugh! So, he will now get them off in June.  We hope!   Do you  know what time I took him for his appt.?  7:30 am.  Why?  Because they said it would be a lengthy appt and needed to get an early start if he didn't wanted to miss too much school. It was testing day at his school, so I scurried in there as early as possible but didn't really need to.  Oh well.  Live and learn!

I did stumble upon something at an antique store recently that I decided would make a nice early Mother's Day gift to myself (from my hubby).  Ha!  Do you do that too?  If I don't speak up, I'm not sure what will happen.  Anyway, I found this popular Bakery sign.

Outdoor Furniture

Hello everyone!

We had some beautiful weather this past weekend.  So, what better time to spiff up our back deck!  We have been needing some comfortable outdoor furniture for a long time.  So, we found this pretty set at Costco.  We shopped around and looked at many others, but found this set was a good match for our deck.

How To Start a Raised Bed Vegetable Garden

Hello everyone!

My husband's first "honey do" while on retirement was to start our vegetable garden.  He always looks forward to doing it though, so it wasn't a problem.  I thought I would show you the steps on how we put ours together.

We start out each year with the left over soil from last year's garden.  My husband rented a small tiller to till up the soil and pull out any old weeds etc that have grown in there.

Other Bedroom Changes

Hello everyone!

Is it Tuesday already?  I had such a busy weekend, so this week is already flying by.  Haven't you noticed when you're busy that time goes faster?

My husband had his big retirement party last Sunday.  It was at his fire station and at least 100 people stopped by to wish him well.  There was lots of homemade BBQ to eat  and lots of hugs and handshakes to go around.  I was with him at the party and it was such a treat to get to see some of the guys he graduated with that I haven't seen in over 20+ years.  These were people that we hung out with and got to know each others families.  They're the ones we took vacations with before we had any kids!  So, it really was like a reunion.  He will go to the station tomorrow morning to officially "sign-off", but he is no longer fighting fire and going on calls.  I'm a bit relieved to know that he's no longer at risk to die in a fire or have a heart attack on the job. Many former retirees stopped by and told him to prepare to start feeling better than he ever has before.  He doesn't know what it's like to sleep on a normal schedule.  Now, it's time to live the second chapter of our life. He will find something else to do that isn't so hard on his body.  This is a change for both of us.

Speaking of sleep..................

I wanted to share the other two bedrooms in our house that I've recently made some changes to.  My guestroom received some changes by adding some new pillows and throws.

Color Changes in the Master Bedroom

Hello everyone!

I'm popping in this Saturday since I missed posting yesterday.  I wanted to share the changes I made in my master bedroom recently.  I moved around some pillows from my family room and master bedroom.  I decided to bring some black and white accents into my bedroom to replace the yellow that I had in here last time you saw it. It's always fun to make changes with things you already have.  That's what I did in here.

Black and White Farmhouse Touches

Hello Everyone!

I recently discovered these bar stools for sale at Target and decided to give them a try in my kitchen.  I liked that they were solid black and metal which gave them a very modern farmhouse look to them.  My old ones were great too, but I was ready for a change.  I will be selling them at a consignment store.

Modern Farmhouse

Hello everyone!

I mentioned in my last post about some of the elements I choose to decorate my home with. One of them is the contrast between elegant and rustic.  The other one is modern textiles and farmhouse style.  They don't sound like they would go together at all, but in a weird way they do!  I think it's the mix that makes them interesting.  If I used only modern items, it would not suit me.  However, throwing in a little bit of it with some of the casual rustic quality of farmhouse style is a pleasing mix to me.

Here in my kitchen, I have a mostly farmhouse style.

Contrasting Elements in Decor

Hello everyone!

I've been off my usual blogging schedule this week because it's Spring break.  It's been so nice to actually forget what day of the week it is for a change.  I kept thinking that yesterday was Sunday!  Fortunately, the weather has been kind to us this week but I think it's getting ready to change.  Cold temps are heading our way.  April is such a fickle month!

I thought I would share, with you, some elements in my decor that seem to be a pattern in each room.

I love contrasts in style.  What I mean by that is I don't want everything in my home to look like it came from one store.  So, I like to mix it up a bit with contrasting elements.  My favorite way to do that is with elegance mixed with rustic.  I also like modern mixed with country.  However, today I'm sharing the first one.

In my family room, I have this very dressy crystal chandelier.

But, underneath it is this chippy painted coffee table.

Bank Bag Makeover

Hello everyone!

I mentioned, recently, that I was going to try my hand at making a pillow from a bank bag.  I got the idea after seeing some for sale at an antique market.  But, once I received the bank bag, I realized my pillow wasn't going to turn out as cute as the ones that I saw for sale.  So, I displayed it temporarily until I could find a better use for it.

I found a way to incorporate the graphics from the bank bag onto something else instead.
