Hello everyone!
Since my last post about re purposing an old gate, I decided to find more items in my home that I've found new uses for. I thought you might like seeing them and maybe even give you some ideas of your own. Many of these have been done by other people as well, so I don't take credit for inventing these ideas! I just wanted to show you what I've done and enjoyed.
First up, are these clamp lights that you can find in any hardware store. They are made for working on things where you need better light. I used them throughout my kitchen as task lighting above my cabinets. I love the industrial look and their low price!
Here is a close up of one.
Something else found in a basic hardware store are drop cloths. They are used to protect your flooring while painting, but I'm using them as draperies. I have these throughout my house too. I like the weight, color, no sew quality and low price.
These grey wooden doors are actually TV armoire doors that we took off. I painted them and hung them on the wall. Then I hung a preserved boxwood wreath over it. I love using these doors as a backdrop for something else.
I love using "found" objects throughout my home. One of those is this old milk crate. I'm using it as a planter behind my sofa.
I needed a small table to place beside my chair. So, I decided to use this wicker hamper that I had on hand. I love the texture it brings to the room. The size is perfect and I can even fill it with throws to use in the family room.
This olive bucket is made for holding olives after they're picked from the trees. I'm using mine to hold firewood next to the fireplace. Well, in this case, decorative birch logs. But you get the idea!
I will stop here, but I have several more ideas to share with you. So, check back and I'll have part 2 of my re purposed items!
Thanks for stopping by.

ReplyDeleteI love how your clamp lights look in the kitchen! I've never seen that. My hubby has one in his work area... not for long ;)
ReplyDeleteI just visited a home where they used a crate inside the fireplace opening for the TV and sat the flatscreen on it. It made it fit in so much more than a regular stand. LOVE that look!
ReplyDeleteFrom the very frost time(before I had a blog), I found your blog and fell in luv with those lights. I used them in my sons room some years ago... I too have the drop cloths as drapes :)
ReplyDeleteLUV it!!
I'm a great fan of drop cloth.

Those are all great re-purposed items, Kelly. I have the drop cloth curtains and pillows. After a long search I found an authentic olive bucket. Would love those lamps and vintage crates like yours.
ReplyDeleteAll great ideas Kelly...I've always loved the look of those clip lights over your kitchen cabinets!
ReplyDeleteKelley, I love that you are re purposing things. That is my goal this year is to re-purpose and declutter.
ReplyDeleteI love the industrial look. I wish my whole house was like this, but I don't know how to make it work so I usually do a little vignette every season with a little of the rusty crusty and galvanized.
ReplyDeleteI love those lights in your kitchen!! I use wood crates at my show, but now I'm thinking that I should bring them into the house for display on my off season. I just recently got some curtains from Ikea that looks like drop cloths. I bet drop cloths would of cost a lot less. I just love how yours look at the windows. So pretty!!

All great ideas, Kelly, but my have is the armoire doors! I never would have thought to do that. I think my husband took the doors off the armoire in the basement, and if he did, I'm going to use your idea!
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteLove all your repurpose items through out your home. Love the doors you painted and hung on the wall. So sweet with the boxwood wreath. Really great re purpose ideas. I cannot wait to see more.

I didn't realize your curtains are no sew dropcloths, Kelly! They look like custom linen panels!
ReplyDeleteAll great ideas.
ReplyDeleteI use drop cloth fabric for a lot of my projects. I love the color and texture.
The post is very informative. It is a pleasure reading it. I have also bookmarked you for checking out new posts.

Love all of your ideas Kelly! I'm copying the armoir doors and the clamp lights! Genius!
ReplyDeleteKelly your home is so lovely, just like I like it. Much of your decor has such a lovely patina and the soft fabrics just complement it so well. Love it! Jo
ReplyDeleteThese are great ideas! I love the clamp lights. I have almost a whole box of leftover hardwood planks from when we had our floors installed (we had already paid for everything, so they let us keep the extras) and you've got me thinking of how I could use them around my home. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteHad to pop back over and tell you that I got the doors hung...not fun! And now I'm going to paint them. They look good and take up space on a big wall without saying much. Thanks for the idea! You inspired me today!
ReplyDeleteLove all these ideas. I'm on the hunt for some old things to add to the house. Have a great weekend
