Hello everyone!
Well, it's been weeks that I've been tweaking the family room. It took a while to decide which direction I wanted to take it in. I played around with red and white, blue and white, red and blue etc. But, everything I did just fell short of what I was looking for. Until now. I wanted something cozy and comfortable. I wanted something soft and imperfect. Yet, I wanted something stylish too. So, I decided to bring in soft denim blues and some indigo to my sofa and chairs. I moved some furniture around to give me the cozy seating group I was after that also made more sense for how we use the room. I changed the lighting around as well. And this is what I came up with.
I have plans to either get an L-shaped sofa one day or a new sofa and loveseat, or sofa and two matching chairs. But, until then this will have to to do. So, just try to overlook that my two chairs sitting side by side don't match perfectly.
This arrangement works so well for this room. I don't know why I never tried it before in the almost 20 years that we've lived here!
I'm loving the pops of soft denim and some darker indigo in the mix.
I brought back my Swedish style arm chair to soften this corner of the room too.
I'm glad to finally have this room done and not feel like something is "off" when I walk into it anymore. I guess I'm my own worst critic.
Be sure to come back here Wednesday night for the weekly Share Your Style link party too!
Thanks for stopping by.

The room is so pretty! I love the deep blue you've added to the room. Nobody would ever notice that the chairs don't match perfectly. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the new furniture arrangement and the pops of blue you added! Glad you finally got the room the way you like it :o)

It looks beautiful Kelly! Of course, I love the denim - it's so easy to bring in. It goes with everything like a favorite pair of jeans. I'll be back to check out the party.

It looks cozy and welcoming. Love the different shades of blue.
ReplyDeleteI *love* your new arrangement and the addition of the denim!! I am with you that the room has to work for how you use it, and finally found what worked in my own last summer after trying everything possible the going with my last resort. I have been thinking about an L-shape or sectional too. They sure make sense and come in so many different styles.
ReplyDeleteI have those same denim pillows. Love them and the room looks great.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks lovely. I felt the same way about our family room -- once we got a new couch (sectional) and things got rearranged a bit, I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of that arrangement before in the 11 years we've lived here!

love the denim and indigo print, Kelly, but then I love it no matter what accent color you choose. It's a great space. Your chairs look great together!
ReplyDeleteYour home always looks warm and inviting! Love all the special touches.
ReplyDeleteI love blue with white.
ReplyDeleteThe furniture arrangement looks great, Kelly!
I didn't even notice the chairs until you said something...don't worry about them not matching.
It all looks very cozy, and beautiful in the room.

You have done a wonderful job and I am crushing on your Swedish chair. This room is so inviting. I know you will spend a lot of time in it now.
ReplyDeleteThis is all so pretty, Kelly...it has a fresh summery feeling! And I love it when things don't match...it feels collected over time...

I love this arrangement, Kelly! it looks perfect and I really like that it is a place where everyone can cozy up and talk...that's what it's all about. I wish I had a big room like this, you really have so much space! The pillows are awesome. I have white in my family room and was thinking of doing some paisley pillows with blue.

this room looks great. I love the 2 chairs side by side, making the room inviting and cozy.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when something finally comes together?! The shades of blue are perfect and I can understand why you're happy now. You're lucky you have a space that is conducive to changing things around. There's only one place I can put my sofa :(. Borrrinnnggggg.
ReplyDeleteThe darker denim blue colors compliment the room nicely! I was in Michael's the other day and they had a lot of pretty denim decor items. Love that! I wouldn't have even noticed the chairs don't match. It's so funny how we live with something for years and years, then on a whim, we'll move something around and it just makes more sense. I'm not happy with a corner of my living room, but I'm trying to live with it until we build our bookshelves. I hate that feeling of something being "off" though. I love those big windows in your family room.
ReplyDeleteI thought it looked perfect before, but you proved me wrong.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks wonderful.
It's really beautiful, Kelly, you totally nailed it! And I think it's perfectly fine that the two chairs aren't the same. I would be standing in the doorway admiring the room every chance I had if I were you!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your chair slipcovers from? I got a roadside wingback chair and after I have it cleaned I would like to cover it with white slipcovers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help.
