Hello everyone!
We recently had our counters and sink replaced in our kitchen. We needed to replace the sink since it was ruined by me cleaning it with an abrasive cleaner and I wasn't supposed to use that. I thought the sink could be cleaned just like the one I had before it. Nope! Bad idea! After calling around to get quotes on refinishing the sink, I realized it would be unreasonable to spend hundreds of dollars just to refinish an inexpensive sink. We couldn't replace it since it was an odd shape and our granite counters were cut to fit it precisely. So, that was our dilemma. I decided to replace the dark brown granite with light colored quartz and get a new stainless steel sink (in a standard shape). I was afraid of getting another white sink after all the problems we had with our last one! I also had them extend the breakfast bar out further since it was too narrow before. So, getting new counters and sink solved a lot of problems for us.
Here is what it looks like now.
But lets look back at what motivated me to do this in the first place. The awful scratched up white sink with an odd shape..........
Wasn't it awful? That was as clean as I could get it.
Here is the dark brown granite that we had. The counter top people removed it in pieces.
This was a sight for sore eyes after they removed the granite. I chose quartz counters that looked like marble. I didn't want the headaches of marble (staining etc) or the high price. Quartz offers more choices for a marble look than granite. It does cost more but is maintenance free! You don't have to seal quartz. I chose "Sophistication" for my pattern/color of counter tops.
And here is the final product! I love my single bowl apron front sink. It feels much bigger than the other one I had and much more functional.
Here is the front of the sink. (We still need to do some touch up painting just below the sink.)
These counters blend better with my grey accents in my house too. I love the subway tile back splash with this counter top! I also chose the "ogee" edge since our last one was straight and sometimes got rough spots on it which would put holes in our shirts from leaning on it near the sink.
Our breakfast bar was extended out into the room further so now you can actually sit at the bar and have more room to eat. I can also use it to serve food from now. We had corbels installed under the extra width. We still have to paint those white to match our cabinets.
So, that's it for the kitchen makeover!
We are making good progress on our bathroom makeovers too. I will share that in the near future.
Have a great weekend! I plan on resting after a very hectic week here.

Above all, you will like that sprayer faucet.
ReplyDeleteThe white quartz looks great, though the granite wasn't as dark as I expected when you said "dark brown granite." It was just meh.
We have marble counters (dark red from a quarry down the road), and we are VERY careful with them. And yet, accidents happen, visitors don't know, stuff happens.
Looks Fabulous~!!
ReplyDeleteenjoy every moment in that room.. Now I want to change mine lol.
Hi Kelly-
ReplyDeleteMardi Gras is over. I'm back at reading blogs. I love your makeover. Yes! The color of the countertops looks great in your home, and the new sink is fabulous. Good luck on the bathroom renos.
Have a great Friday!
Ron
Your counter top looks like the one my friend got. I don't think you saw that recent post but I love it Kelly and it's exactly what I would choose too!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer single bowl sinks too. Just seems more practical.
Beautiful!

OH! Everything looks so pretty, Kelly! I love all of your choices...and how nice to have functional seating now, too! Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks so beautiful..... I LOVE your new counter tops!!!!!! We have done extensive renovations on our home and the only regret I have is not going with marble for the counter tops. I wish we could put new quartz ones in like yours but I'm afraid that won't happen for years. I have the same sink as you and so far I haven't had any problems with scratching. I had no idea you had so many problems with yours, that is just awful!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Kelly, It looks fabulous! I love the sink and love the way you extended the countertop so that you could sit there with bar stools! I loved your kitchen before but now it looks like a complete makeover without the expense of a complete tear-out. I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh wow!!! Luving the lighter counter tops!!!!I have been debating a single sink versus a double.... hmmm. I might just be sold!!
ReplyDeleteEverything is just so pretty!!
Gorgeous. It looks totally amazing.
ReplyDeletePerfect..What a nice change...My counter top is similar to your old one but I have oak cabinets that I hate..I miss my white kitchen..Love your new counter top..Have a wonderful weekend..
ReplyDeleteFabulous new look and I know you are loving it. Can't wait to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Kelly, I adore my quartz. You can't damage in any way. I take things right out of the oven and put it directly on the counter. Don't have to worry about anything
ReplyDeleteYou made a super choice. I love your sink.

ReplyDeleteAlso, NOTE TO SELF : don't go overboard cleaning, it will ruin things.....haha

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new look.
ReplyDeleteYour new quartz countertop and stainless sink really bring everything together, Kelly. Your kitchen is gorgeous! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly, I love it! The counters are beautiful! When we got new counters, we had them extend our breakfast bar too, and then we added corbels as well. You'll love being able to use it to serve food, etc. I would also like to have a single bowl sink in the kitchen. I think it would be a lot more practical than what I have now. Enjoy your new look and rest up this weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks fabulous. I do love your sink. Would you share your resource? The countertops are especially nice, and you are going to like it much better. I can't stand our granite -- put in by the previous owner. They are black, and since I can't half see 😁 white would serve me so much better! Plus I think it makes your kitchen look bigger to have it all white. Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful Kelly! I bet you are loving it!! We are in the process of planning our kitchen makeover and have decided on Quartz too - though the color is still TBD! Something that resembles marble. :) Yours looks great. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBest of both worlds since the counters look real. lovely kitchen.
