Changes in the Family Room

Hello everyone!

Since I made some changes in the kitchen and foyer, I couldn't leave the family room out, could I?  So here is what it looks like now......again......today.......this minute.......but for how long, I'm not sure.......boy this is a long sentence......!

I changed up my coffee table by adding my blue glass jug, a plant and an open book.

Then, the things that I had on the coffee table moved to the white dresser.

I decided to paint the little tea table grey (big surprise, right?).

Then, I brought in my garden statuary from outside to use by the fireplace.

And, last but not least, I changed the mantel again.  I know, I just can't help myself.  I moved the cherry blossom branches somewhere else (to be revealed in another post).  I replaced them with some Lilly of the Valley flowers.  I added a wicker bottle, old book bundles and book pages along with my antique leather books and a plant.

See?  I told you I've been busy inside.  Of course, now that my allergies are easing up, I've been enjoying some outdoor weather.  Next week is Spring break here, so I plan on working on my front porch and front yard.  Pictures to follow!

Changes in the Kitchen

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to report that my allergies are getting a little better.  Yay!  Now my husband and oldest son are dealing with them.  I think we could all use a visit to an allergist one day.  ha!  It must be genetic.

On another note, I mentioned in my last post that I did a little retail therapy.  Here are a few things I purchased for my kitchen and some vignette changes that I made.

Do you see anything new at my kitchen table?

Let's look at it at another angle and see if you can spot it.

Now I know you must see it!  It's that cute little bench.  I found it in a completely different color, but it was made of solid wood and very sturdy.  It looks to be handmade (not mass produced).  I snatched it up for a mere $39!  Can you believe it?  I came home and painted it white.  I plan on doing a little more distressing to it in the future.

It needs a little "chippiness" going on!  Ha!

I also found these petite french canisters.

And....this cute wooden caddy.

I filled it with an old seltzer bottle, sterling silver spoons and a topiary.

I moved a few things around too.  I placed this basket with flowers on my counter.

And I moved my scale over to the grey cabinet.

I also added a large painted basket of flowers to the center of my table.

I'm very happy with the outcome.  It feels a bit more summery in here now.  We've been enjoying some beautiful sunny weather this week.  It's been nice to be in the kitchen with the back door open.

Tomorrow, is a special day for me and my husband too.  We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary!  I can't believe how fast it has gone by.  I look back on it and shake my head.  I feel very blessed to be in a good marriage with 2 beautiful children.

Thanks for stopping by!

Old and Chippy

Hello everyone!

I hope you've been having a nice weekend.  Mine has been good and bad.  The bad is that I now have a sinus infection from my allergies and my husband is starting to suffer with them too.  But, since I'm not one to let that get me down, I decided some retail therapy was needed.  Doesn't that always make you feel better?

I went shopping at a nearby antique mall and did not come home empty handed.  One of the items I found was this very old wooden chair with peeling, chippy paint.

Isn't it the cutest thing?  I decided to put it in my foyer next to my chest.  I added a pillow to it (because all my chairs seem to have one).  Ha!

Here is a close-up of the paint.

See all that chippy goodness?

I know that the pillow is a little big for the chair, but for now I'm enjoying that pattern in it.  I'm just going to have to break a rule on this one!  Ha!

In future posts, this week, I'll show you some more stuff I brought home with me.  I found some things that I love for my kitchen. Also, since I've been avoiding going outside (with the pollen) I've been rearranging vignettes in my home everywhere.  You know how it is when you bring something new home and then everything else suddenly needs to be changed.  So I'll be sharing all of that with y'all this week.  Stay tuned.......

Summer Beauty

Hello everyone!

I brought out my collection of shells to display in the foyer on my pine chest.

This time of year, when the weather starts warming up, I'm always looking for things that bring a summery feel into my home other than flowers and white slipcovers.

Shells always seem to be the perfect addition.

I filled my cement urn with miscellaneous shells, abalone, starfish, coral and a sea fan. I love the different shades of white and texture it brings to the room.

I also brought my dough bowl in here from the coffee table.  I like the book bundles mixed with the shells.  It has a vintage feel to it.

Bloom Overload

Hello everyone!

I am still sneezing and whining about it, but it is getting a tad better (or maybe I've just become used to it by now).  I thought I'd share with you the reason for all this sneezing too.  Let's take a tour of what's been blooming in my yard this past week (yes in just one week).

Warning:  lots of pics and this is not everything blooming.  Ha!

Crab apple Tree

Razzleberry Bushes

Hosta

Camelia Bush

Holly Bushes

Cherry Tree

Jasmine Vine

Lillies

Rose Bushes

Knock-out Rose Bushes

Forsythia Bushes

Butterfly Bushes

And..............there's so much more that I didn't even show a picture of.  My iris's and tulips (leaves only so far), honeysuckle, hydrangea etc.  Me and my husband are planning on doing some more yard work this weekend.  We need to continue putting fresh straw out.  He pruned all of our bushes and put out weed killer.  Our grass is slowly greening up and the weeds are starting to die.  Work, work, work!  Anyone want to come over and help us?

Gray and Cream Clock

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  We had some nice weather, here in GA!  I actually broke out my shorts and sandals for the first time this year.  My allergies are still in full swing though.  I barely have a voice right now.  That means I am on the tail end of it though.  It usually starts with sneezing, then runny nose, then coughing, then laryngitis!  I'm used to it by now. I was taking allergy medicine, but it gave me terrible insomnia.  Don't I sound like one big pity party?!  Ha!

It's not all doom and gloom around here though.  I managed to do a few new things around the house this weekend.

Ever since I changed my color scheme to a more neutral palette, this clock never quite fit in.

It had a yellow and blue band around it, which I did not like anymore.  I love clocks though and felt like all it needed was a little makeover to make me like it again.

So, out came the gray paint.

Here is what it looks like now.

This hangs on the white wall in my upstairs hallway that is open to the foyer.  So it really needed to coordinate with the colors downstairs.

I painted the outer band and inner circle gray along with the little french designs that were a light blue.

Now I'm happy with it once again!

Also, after about a month of waiting, I received something I ordered from Antique Farmhouse.

I received this number two sign and decided to use it in my kitchen.  It matches perfectly and adds a bit of industrial style that I like.

So, despite being miserable with allergies, I managed to have some fun after all!

Nature Inspired Vignette

Hello everyone!

With the summer like weather we've been having, and the bees and ants coming out of hiding, I felt it only fitting to show my latest vignette on top of my antique secretary.  You may recall that I found this hornets nest last year while out antiquing.  I loved it for it's texture and nature inspiration.  It now resides  here.  I added some branches to make it look more like its natural setting.

I thought it was also fitting to place it in front of the fern picture.

I have also been battling a cold or allergies.  Not sure which it is.  So, I've been walking around feeling like this the last few days.

Not too pretty!  Hopefully, I will get over it soon.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!

French Love

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a few things that I found that bring the french look to my home.

Recently, while on a trip to Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta, I found this European license plate.  I was so excited when I spotted it!

I hung it on the wire basket above my refrigerator.  I love the black and white graphics of it.

Can you believe it was only $6?  I didn't know you could find anything that cheap at Scott's!

As many of you know, I receive daily emails from Wuslu.  They have some good deals.  I bought this set of french cushions and found new homes for them.

I put this one in my chair in the family room.
It was sold as a set of 2.  I placed the other cushion in an old basket in my foyer.  The wire basket that was there moved to another location.
I love the grey and cream color scheme of these cushions.
The wire basket that used to be in the foyer moved into the sitting room.  I decided to put the vintage leather suitcase in there as well.
I tell ya, things don't stay in one place too long around here!  Ha!
So there you have it.  Just a touch of french in some new places in my home.  Now, I wish I had taken French in school instead of Spanish.  Then I could read all of this stuff!
Thanks for stopping by!
