Monogrammed Slipcovers

Hello everyone!

Well, I did it!  But not the way I set out to.  Remember when I bought the monograms at Hobby Lobby to use on my dining room slipcovers?  I was going to dye them grey first.  Well, I did do that, but they turned out shiny and smoke blue looking.  Not the color I intended.

I realize that the picture above doesn't show the color that they looked like in natural light, but trust me when I say that it wasn't what I was going for.

So, I tried bleaching one to see if that would turn out any better and it just turned a light shade of pink.  Now, I  was going completely in the wrong direction!  So, a blogger friend of mine suggested I paint them.

So, that is what I did to get the color I wanted.

After painting them, I was happy because this is the grey that I wanted!

Since I painted them, I didn't iron them on.  I just used fabric glue again.  I may regret this because now I may have trouble washing these.  I may have to figure something out when that time comes.  Luckily, this room is seldom used though.  Also, my slipcovers were not custom made.  They are just basic store bought covers that I've had for many years.  So, I'm not going to lose sleep if this turns out to be a bad idea down the road.

I decided to place them on the front instead.  It just looked like they belonged there instead of the back.

What do you think?

I'm very happy with how they turned out!  I'm sure they're not perfect, but I knew they wouldn't be since I didn't have these done professionally anyway.

And speaking of imperfection........

In my next post, I will show you something I did to a piece of furniture that is perfectly imperfect!!!!  And that is why I love it even more.  Stay tuned............

Thanks for stopping by!

:-) Nice! The monograms look quite luvly on the front. It is in doing things that suit us that we make our space that ultra special 'us'.
The grey pops off the crisp white.
Happy Sunday to you and yours Kelly.
Hugs, Gee

Your monogrammed slipcovers turned out fabulous! As long as the glue holds up, your covers will be washable. Once it cures, acrylic craft paint is permanent. Believe me, back in my decorative painting days, I ruined many a pair of jeans with that paint!

Kelly,
Oh these came out beautiful. Great job. They give the slipcovers just the little bit they needed to be personal to your space. Love these.

I probably would have thrown them in the garbage when they didn't work out the first time. Good for you sticking with it! They look really fabulous on your slipcovers!!

the other day I was actually going to suggest you paint them with acrylic paint. Acrilic paint should be washable. I have done stuff with acrylic paint on fabric, and it can be washed. You might want to check on the paint label (on the back).

I think they look great on the front, Kelly. They are the perfect size for that and may have gotten a bit lost on the bigger back. I love the color-great idea to paint them. It's amazing what we do, isn't it, to get the look we want- xo Diana

Love the look! And I think you might be ok with washing them but maybe don't put them in the dryer? If the fabric glue is washer and dryer safe it should be fine though! And I'm glad you put them on the front - they do look like they really belong there.

Oh, I love how they turned out! They just add a little something special to your slipcovers.
I'm drawn to the imperfection in things, so I can't wait to see what you've done! :)

Good job on these. I think they look incredible! I would have never thought of painting them either. Great idea there. Hope you enjoyed your 4th celebrations. It was rainy and gloomy here. We ended up ordering pizza for dinner which was a 4th of July first for us!
