More Grey in the Foyer

Hello everyone!

During the summer, you may recall that I painted the chest of drawers in my foyer a soft blue.  I loved it at the time, but found that it was locking me too much into that color.  I also didn't have enough blue around the house to make it feel like it belonged there.  I prefer a home that has the same colors flowing throughout and since I've committed to grey and white predominantly, it just felt right to repaint my chest of drawers in a grey color.  I think using blue pillows and accessories is a better way for me to go at the moment if I want to bring in that color.  So...............here it is sporting the same shade of grey that I have on many other pieces of furniture in my home.

I decided to do a light coat of grey so you can still barely see the blue peeking through.  This gives it more of an aged look.

As soon as I painted it, I KNEW it was the right thing to do.  It had been bothering me for a while.  I think it would've been fine if I didn't feel it was competing with the flow of the grey and white in all of my other rooms.

I changed the accessories on top by adding a pitcher of eucalyptus and some lavender sachets.

I found the sachets from another blogger who was selling them.  They smell wonderful and are packaged in some wonderful vintage grey and white ticking material.

So, I'm a happy camper now that I've made that change.  No more trying to work with that blue color that I thought was so wonderful just a few months ago.  See?  Now you know why I have such a neutral home.  I can't commit to certain colors for too long.  I wish I had just painted it this color to begin with now.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Kelly! Sorry I haven't commented in a while - lots of catching up to do. I totally get what you are saying about "flow". I think that's why I can't get my act together because I keep injecting too much color and I want a more peaceful look. I will always love your home and style and I think the cabinet is perfect grey!

That's the great thing about paint - you can try something and you either love it or change it. This time you changed it, but at least it wasn't costly. I like the grey very much. I also adore the white pitcher with the eucalyptus. I would like to invite you and your readers to visit (& follow) me at my blog: simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com

wow kelly that turned out so pretty! do you mind telling me the paint color you used? i must have missed it on a previous post.

i know what you mean by all things flowing throughout the house...it's okay to bring in other colors but i believe the overall scheme should coordinate and then do a little bit with pillows, etc. you made a good choice with painting that chest.

I've thought the piece was beautiful all three ways I've seen it in your home, but the gray definitely suites your decor the best! You have styled it so wonderfully too!!

Love the gray with the white knobs.

It looks beautiful, Kelly, and suits your home as well. I know what you mean about committing to colour on large pieces. I love blue and struggle with this as well.

I liked it both ways, but I know what you mean about wanting it to flow with other rooms. I love how you just did a light coat. That makes it look so pretty! That's a wonderful shade of grey too. Not too light and not too dark. :)

It's very pretty, but naturally you know I miss the blue. To me blue and gray go together like sky and storms. But I understand why you want more flow.

Love the tone of putty grey you chose for your chest of drawers. The white knobs draw perfect attention to the white stoneware pitcher....it's a perfect putty grey that charms the entry space that it sits in.

I totally understand about having a piece of furniture or a vignette that just doesn't feel right. It is wonderful when you finally get it right.

I love looking at your lovely home any time.

Gray is my new favorite color at the moment. I know how you feel trying to make something work when it keeps nagging at you. I'm learning to trust that feeling...just so I don't keep wasting time and effort. I love how it turned out Kelly and LOVE the ecualyptis. My daughter dried some and it turned out nice. She hung it upside down and it's a little lighter in color but other than that it's perfect. Hope you're having a good week.

I couldn't agree more! Keeping the "big things" neutral and having fun changing out small things seasonally has been life-changing and fun. LOVE your cabinet in gray, and the blue peeking through is great.

I love the new color. The power of paint! Love it. I'm going more neutral in my home and adding color with accessories. What color gray did you use. it looks like french linen. My new neutral favorite is ASCP Versailles with old white.

I think you made the right decision...you are definitely the quick change artist and having a neutral color in furnishings will lend to your "quick change artist" desires!...love how you accessorized with the white!
