In my Kitchen

Hello everyone!

Thank you for all of the well wishes for my son's new independent life and for my own new journey.  Fortunately, he lives about 30 minutes away from us and comes by at least twice a week on the way back from school at night.  He has some night classes and what do you think he wants after class?  Food!  So, I guess that will keep him coming by on a regular basis.  LOL!

I've decided to set up his room as a guest room for him in case he ever wants or needs to spend the night here.  I'm keeping it in the same color scheme and masculine style since he is about my only guest these days.  We don't have out of town family that would use it. However, I'm most excited about all the new storage I'm gaining in his empty closet!  I'll show you what I'll be doing with that soon.

In my kitchen, I decided to remove the lamp (again) that was on the counter and try something else there instead.

Remember the large wooden pedestal that I used in the dining room?  I decided to use it as a base for my petite vintage scale.

I like the warmth of the wood against the shiny granite and the white porcelain of the scale.

It also helps elevate the scale and give it more presence in the room.  We all want more presence in the room, don't we?  LOL!

Well, since it's Friday, and my husband is off work today, we are going to go see the movie, Jurassic World.  I remember being pregnant with my first child (the one that just moved out) when I saw the very first movie, Jurassic Park back in the summer of 1993!

Have a great weekend!

~ Kelly ~

I love how you have showcased the scale in your kitchen. I am way behind in my blog reading so will look back at the post where your son moved out. Hope you and your husband have a fun movie date. xo Laura

Yeah, I somehow missed the pedestal too. Love what you did! It's so refreshing to see white appliances in a kitchen. I just deplore stainless steel.

Kelly your kitchen is so charming! I love how you mixed in the warm colors with your whites. And the scale always looks darling, no matter where it ends up. I'm excited to see what you do with your son's guest room. Happy Friday!

I'm looking forward to seeing that movie too! We were on a cruise when the first one came out in '93 and I couldn't wait to get back so we could see it! How neat to have a guest room! More storage is always a good thing. I love when you post pics of your beautiful kitchen. It's one of my favorites in all of blogland. :)

Love those scales. Yes, it's good when they come home only mine didn't make it home often living 6 hours away. So, we went to them. We made the transition 3 weeks ago and love it! Enjoy!

Love your scale and how you have it displayed in your kitchen!! I have a big scale in my kitchen too. My youngest daughter had moved out of home, but after one year...she came back home and will be here for a little while.
Hope you have a great weekend.

The scale is a fabulous piece, and it is a great addition to your counter. I love the irony of the first Jurassic Park coming out when you were pregnant, and this one, just after you son moved to his own apartment!

I'm going to echo what Amy said. Full circle seems to come into play here.

I am curious to hear what you think of the movie. We almost went last night but didn't.

The change on your counter is great! Good idea to keep your sons room open to him. Have a lovely day. Jo

Your kitchen is lovely and that vintage scale and pedestal are both great pieces. Our oldest son is only 18 but recently moved his room down to our basement guest suite which caused a shuffling of bedrooms upstairs. I'm still sorting and purging and hope to paint the new guest room soon.

The scale is a beautiful piece, so highlighting it atop your wooden pedestal makes for a perfect showcase! Have fun creating your guest room and re-loving the empty closet! Blessings, Cindy

Hi Kelly, playing catch up. Love the changes, the scale and the wood pedestal are beautiful. Wherever did you find that pedestal??

I think the wooden pedestal was a nice touch. Simple maneuvers do tend to be the most impacting. And it does blend nicely with the marble countertops! Your kitchen looks amazing, by the way. Thanks for sharing!
