Hello everyone!
I hope you're having a nice Monday so far. After a long week of rain here, it is nice to see the sun shining once again. My allergies are starting to improve too. I think I will continue to take my Zyrtek throughout the Fall months so it will not come back. It seems to be helping.
Do you love orchids as much as I do? I have had good luck growing them (somehow). I am not an orchid specialist but what I do know about them is that they will only flower part of the year. So don't think they're dead if they stop flowering! When your orchid looks like this it's still alive but not too pretty though.
So rather than wait several months for it to re-flower, I just bought a fake orchid stem from Walmart (yes Walmart) and attached it to the stem that would normally have flowers. You can also attach it to the stake that comes with all orchids to hold up the flower stems. Just use the little clips that they have to attach it.
And voila!
No one will ever know it isn't the real thing.
Just bend the stem to be droopy the way that live orchids are.
The real leaves keep it from looking fake. Be sure to continue watering it every week too. I use a tiny cup that came with mine to help with the proper measurement of water.
Another fun thing to do is pick out a different color of flower than what yours naturally has. That way you'll have 2 orchids for the price of one! Part of the year this one is white and part of the year it's fuchsia.
Don't be afraid of real orchids. They're not super expensive either, so if they do die, it's not a huge waste of money.
Thanks for stopping by!
~ Kelly ~

You are so clever!!! It looks so pretty with the rosary draped over the basket edge!
What a great idea!! It looks real!
It looks so real! Smart girl. :)
For some reason, I've never done well with orchids. this is such a smart idea, and looks so lifelike. maybe mine were'nt dead. ooops.
So clever and it still looks so real! Walmart has really stepped it up with their faux flowers. I couldn't believe how pretty they were the last time I was in there!
Your stem from Walmart looks very real! I use silk stems in my Orchids too so I will have to swing by Walmart :o)
Have a great week!

Well, aren't you clever. I had one orchid and had no luck. May need to try again.
Such a clever idea! I've owned several orchids but I am never patient enough to wait for it to flower again. This little trick would certainly help my patience!
That is such a clever idea, Kelly! I can't keep houseplants alive. I don't know if it's bad light or too much watering, but the few plants I've tried have only lasted a few weeks before turning yellow. Or maybe it's our drafty old house! Your pretty orchids certainly seem to like your house.
I'm an orchid killer. I get it home and the flowers start raining off of it. The faux orchid stem is a great idea.
That's a great idea, Kelly! I sometimes add faux fillers to fresh flowers...always looks very real...
Kelly, this is such a creative idea! I'm all about the 'faux' flowers (since I have a brown thumb) :)

Love this clever idea Kelly, and I learned something new today about the flowering habits of orchids. Now I have to tell you something funny...when I first saw your pillow, I thought what I think is really 'Earl' said Fart. :/
What a great idea! I would probably have thought it was dead and tossed it! I received a gorgeous fuchsia one for my birthday recently, and so far it is holding up. However, I can tell that it will probably get unflowered pretty soon because a couple of blooms already fell off. Now I know what to do. Mine didn't come with a cup, but the tag said to give it a few ice cubes once a week.
My mom is an expert orchid grower. I have never seen anyone get orchids to flower as many times as she does. This is a great idea for when they aren't flowering, because your right, they aren't really pretty when they don't have blooms. xo Laura
Clever..I have one that is almost at that stage..Yours has buds on it...I wouldn't want to shade those new buds..
Great idea..... I never thought of that.
What a great idea!! I have one in my living room that lost the flower will have to try this!
