More Makeovers

Hello everyone!

I've been enjoying giving some home accessories a makeover.  They were just sitting in my basement and not really wowing me with their current look.  So, I decided to get some craft paint out and give them a new look.

The first "victim" was this large metal crown.  It started out in just a plain dark grey finish.  I forgot to take a before pic.  I decided to dry brush some white paint on it and then follow that with a dark wax.  It gave it an antique look and the paint brought out more details on the crown.

I then placed it on my coffee table and added some prayer beads in it.

Next, I grabbed my metal ampersand that was in a galvanized finish.  I wanted to give it more spunk so I spray painted it metallic gold.  It still didn't look gold enough, so I went over it with metallic gold craft paint.  That gave it a brighter finish.  Finally, I added some white polka dots.  I love gold and white together. The polka dots gave it extra spunk.

It's not perfect, but that's ok.  Imperfection is growing on me these days.

If nothing else, these projects have convinced me to keep a small inventory of inexpensive craft paints on hand.  You just never know when an unexpected project will pop up!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

I like the black and white photos Kelly. Good choice for the subject matter, which came out great.

You're right about the gold spray paint vs. regular craft paint. The later seems to have more of a punch to it. I found that out with a recent small project too (posting tonight). Love the polka dots!

I enjoyed your post. I agree why buy new when you can shop your house and update a piece with paint. The crown and ampersand look great with the new paint.

I totally have a thing for crowns and I love this one! You did a great job! I have a basket in my laundry room with all kinds/colors of spray paint and craft paint and it comes in handy all the time. Paint is such an inexpensive way to refresh a piece of decor. Happy Thanksgiving week!

Yes Kelly, oh so true.....I think all of us bloggers have tons of stuff we could give a make-over with some paint. I really love the crown and the way you displayed it and the ampersand is amazing and adds just the right touch of color on the wall.
