I love decorating with mirrors. They help to bring light into a room and add a bit of elegance as well. I thought I'd show you some mirrors of my own that I have sprinkled throughout my house.
There are a lot of ways you can make your mirrors more interesting too. For example, here I've hung a set of two crest shaped mirrors on the wall together. I love to use them in groups.
I also love to use a large mirror to fill a blank wall. In this case, I used a leaning mirror. That's right, this is meant to lean against the wall.
I really love how much space this mirror fills up without feeling overwhelming.
Of course, I also like mirrors for their shape and finish on the frame. This one hangs in my family room. I bought it just like it is and fell in love with the color and shape.
And, I know most of you have already seen this one repainted by my sister. My mother in-law gave it to me many years ago. It was a mirror that she no longer wanted, so I happily took it and am so glad that I did. Just look at it now!
I love to add symmetry to my mirrors also. Notice that I hung plates around my mirror. If your mirror hangs above a table top, you can pair tall matching lamps beside it. Then you can enjoy the reflection of the light in the mirror. That's what I did in my dining room.
During the holidays, you can hang a wreath on your mirror. I have a fall wreath on this one now, but may change it at Christmas with an evergreen one.
In my master bedroom, I hung this Trumeau mirror above the chest beside our bed.
I like the style of this mirror very much. This is a reproduction of an old style mirror that I see in antique stores quite a bit.
Have you ever loved a mirror because of it's unique frame shape, but didn't like the finish so much? I know that happened to me on this next mirror. The finish was fine until I hung it in this dark powder room.
So. out came the black paint and I just painted inside the raised areas of the frame and gave it a little more contrast. Now, it suits the room better.
So, next time you're out shopping and you see a pretty shaped mirror that has possibilities, bring it home and repaint it to suit your own space. They are plentiful at thrift stores and antique malls as well as big box stores.
I love how versatile they are. They go with any decor and any room. Just one thing though, don't break one or you know what might happen................just saying!
