A big THANK YOU shout out to Brenda at Cozy Little House for her help with my new blog header! I really appreciate your time and talent!
I wanted to share some design elements in my home that help define my style. I have recently started adding some industrial touches to my kitchen. I like how it contrasts with the country feel I've already got going on.
I know most of you (who follow my sisters blog) have already seen some of this before, but humor me while I post it on my blog for a moment. Ha! I added some much needed lighting above my cabinets by using inexpensive clamp lights from Walmart and Home Depot.
The undercabinet lighting we once had kept needing to be replaced. So, I thought of trying this and, voila, I like it better than the undercabinet lighting I was using anyway.
My latest industrial style addition to my kitchen are these barstools from Overstock.com.
My sister uses Overstock.com alot and got me started using them too.
Above my refrigerator sits this wire basket. I found it, over a year ago, at a consignment store.
It's what started my industrial revolution! Ha!
Another design element that I love is typography. I have many items with it and use it scattered throughout my home. I don't have any in the bedrooms though.
One example is this apron made out of a burlap coffee sack.
I also have these burlap pillows in my kitchen.
I love typography on the wall. This french sign is in my kitchen.
And this burlap coffee sack is attached to a bulletin board in my hallway.
This black and white sign reminded me of subway art (without the subway words). If you read it, you'll think it's a bit odd, but I like it nonetheless.
In my family room, I framed a pillow cover. It has french writing on it.
I found this cute black and white pillow at Hobby Lobby with a word definition on it. It makes its rounds throughout the house. Ha! I guess that's one of the advantages to having neutral colors. It's in a chair in my sitting room.
I also love monograms. They fit in this typography category. I applied this monogram to a plain lampshade. It was intended as an iron-on monogram. But I didn't feel safe in putting a hot iron on this lampshade fabric. So I just used fabri-tac glue. It is my favorite!
I think combining these elements in my home help create the industrial farmhouse style I like. It's not for everyone, but for me, it's what I gravitate towards. It's all about the mix of style makers in our homes.
I hope everyone has a super weekend. This has been a fun first week as a new blogger. It's been such a pleasure to meet everyone and I feel certain that great relationships are already being formed.
My dog, Max, wanted to make an appearance today too. This is his early morning "sleepy" look. Anyone that has a Boston Terrier will tell you that they play hard and sleep hard.

Great post, sis! You are getting the hang of this blogging thing down. It will all become much easier as you do it, but never less time consuming. You know I love that wire basket that can float my way when you tire of it.

Your blog header looks wonderful! I also love those bar stools. They really suit the area.
We used to have a Boston. She was certainly a party animal and when she finally crashed and slept she snored the house down!
Best wishes and happy weekend,
Natasha.
Oh. Oh. Your clamp on lights are the same I have in my darkroom.
Do I need to get them out of there and use them elsewhere?
Brenda thought I might enjoy your blog. I love her blog Cozy Little House.
My daughter gave me a dozen or so burlap bags from the local coffee house. Haven't created any thing YET!
hugs
Very cool stuff! Especially loving the wire basket that started it all, and the framed pillow cover! Have a great weekend :)
You have a lovely home, Kelly! I especially like the industrial touches you have going on in your kitchen (industrial revolution~hehe!) The clamp lights are really cool, and I'm guessing that you ran the cords to a plug, or are they hardwired? I really like that look and would love to find some.
Hi Kelly! Love your industrial looks in your home. Those clamp lamps look great over your cabinets. Your kitchen is gorgeous!
Aw, your little Boston is adorable. We had one named Sugar and she was 15 when she went to doggy heaven. Oh, my heart still melts when I see one!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Okay, I'm in love with your lights idea! I may have to steal that one for the little blue house.

You have a very nice look going on!Betty @ www.bsneeringer.blogspot.com
Hi Kelly, I have followed Kim's blog for sometime now. I always looked forward to her posts featuring rooms of your home (you two must definitely have that tasteful decorating gene!!)
It was because of Kim that I developed a love for pillows, and I just recently purchased two almost identical to your "Enjoy" pillow, except mine reads "relax" and "imagine". I found them at Country door...very reasonable:

Anyways, can't wait to see what you've got coming up in your posts...I really enjoy your blog so far!!

Hugs,

okay, comment overload from me today! ha!
You and Kim need to come to my house to help me decorate! I love everything and I hope you have that wire basket glued to your fridge!
That wire basket--well, if I figure out where you are, it just might disappear! :) Just sayin'...
I have found over time that I tend towards the industrial, metal gears and such of steampunk mixed with a kind of primitive country with barn stars and such. I just love the way you can mix industrial and country and it just seems to WORK! You have really great ideas...
