Cottage Comfort

Hello everyone!

As you know, nothing stays the same around here too long.  One thing remains constant though.  White slipcovers adorn most of my furnishings.  I can't help it.  It's just what I love.  I decided I wanted a more balanced look using my slipcovered furniture in my family room.  So, rather than having them flank the fireplace (that already had large pieces of furniture beside it) I moved them adjacent to the sofa instead.  That meant I had to move the distressed chest of drawers out of the room entirely.  It is now residing in the master bedroom.  I really like it there.

With the furniture in new places, I made a few changes with the pillows and also the accessories on the coffee table and mantel.

Doesn't that always happen?

I even moved my bench in here to put in front of the fireplace.  I draped a throw over it for softness.

The bench used to be in the dining room.

I'm liking the way the room feels more balanced now and the fireplace isn't so crowded.  This is a challenging room to arrange furniture in due to the many doorways, windows and fireplace.

My mantel now has purple flowers and candles with crosses on them.

The green topiaries relocated to other places.

Everything I like to decorate with can fit in almost any room on the lower level.  I like that it flows easily from room to room.

Yesterday was my husband's birthday too.  We had a fun filled day of going to the pool, seeing a movie and going out to eat.  Here is the birthday cake I made for him.

I am recovering today from all the activities!  LOL!

Hope you all are having a great week so far.

Thanks for stopping by!

Kelly I can see why your room is a challenge to decorate with the window and fireplace.I have that same issue too.Unfortunately for me I cannot change that room much because of my challenges. But you did a beautiful job as always! Love your beautiful family room and you styled it perfectly too!Looks like a magazine cover!

I love this room no matter how you arrange it! Your furniture and fireplace are so pretty, but I get you on the windows, doorways, etc. I have that problem, too. Love the flowers on the mantel and the bench looks perfect in front of the hearth.

Happy Birthday to your husband, the cake looks delicious!!

XO,
Jane

The arrangement, and your room, look great Kelly. It looks like it would be good for gatherings and conversations grouped like that. We really need more seating in our family room and although it is long and narrow I'm hoping to add some extra seating before too long. The white slips help unify the separate pieces too.

Wow! What a gorgeous room. I really like the arrangement. I'm all about balance myself-sometimes too much. I like that the coffee table is wood. It really looks pretty among the light colors.

Your room looks stylish AND cozy, Kelly. The last time I tried moving furniture around, a leg fell off my 23 year old sofa! It's now my never ending list of things to replace. :)

All your changes look great!! I just got a slipcover for our sofa...went with taupe instead of white, because my little Yorkies love to lay on it.

Cindy

You can't just show a photo of a cake and not tell me what is under the frosting!

You've got your style down to a science so moving things about your house is so easy! Your room looks great. I make my husband a birthday cake every year too. It's a recipe from his family and the frosting has to be cooked. I'm glad I only have to make it once a year!

I really love how the room turned out. I am all for symmetry in a room, I think it brings balance. I also like how your TV cabinet matches your china cabinet. I think that is really missing in my space. Now that I see it in a photo, I will try to work on mine.
Thanks.

The new room arrangment looks terrific. I'd plop myself into one of those chairs and never get up! Are those lilacs on the mantel? They really "pop" against the white. Happy Bday to your husband…and that cake looks delish!

I love white slipcovers too, and yours look great! Are those white Ikea planters on your mantel? I sure wish they would sell those online so I wouldn't have to drive there to get some. :) Your hubby's cake looks delicious!
