Embroidered Monograms

Hello everyone!

I really love the look of embroidered monograms but can't always have them done the professional way.  You either need a special machine or have someone do it for you.  I wanted the look without the inconvenience.  So, a trip to Hobby Lobby and a few dollars later bought me these.

You see, I've used these before.  I used them on some lampshades and loved how they turned out.  So, when I decided I wanted to monogram some other items in my house I knew these would work again.

I wanted to add a monogram to the little lavender filled sachets that Ann made me a while back.

I thought they would look good displayed in a bowl on my coffee table.  Since they were plain, I thought a monogram with my first letter initial would be pretty.

Here it is just lying on top of the sachet.  All I had to do was use a little fabric glue on the back of it and press it down.  Easy peasy!  These are iron on but I didn't trust the heat of the iron with the lavender inside.

Here they are on the coffee table.  (Please excuse the messy sofa in the background.)

See what a difference?

Now, what about the "D"'s that I bought.  I plan on using them on the back of the dining room slipcovers.

Since these will need to be washed from time to time, I will iron these monograms on.  I am thinking I need to dye the monograms first though.  The white doesn't stand out very much.  I'm thinking of a soft grey color.  They sold black monograms, but I didn't want them that dark.

So, what do you think?  Do you love the ease of these iron on monograms as much as I do?  They can be glued on too if it isn't something you can iron on. There were several different fonts, sizes and colors available at  the store.  This could get addicting!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I think that makeing the letters darker would really work well with your chairs. How are you going to dye them? I like the lavander filled sachets with your initial on it, it personalize an ordinary sachet.

Thanks so much for passing this idea along! I love monograms but the custom ones can be quite pricey and time consuming for wait for. Love this alternative!

Love this idea. Kelly the sachets are so cute. I think the monogram letters on your slipcovers in a darker shade will be beautiful. Love this idea.

I think these are just fantastic, I've never seen them before. I would love to have them on our European size pillow shams. They are going to look fantastic on your chair covers! How do you plan on dying them? I wonder if you could tea stain them.

Thanks for the tip! Hobby lobby, Michael's etc., are so large, it's hard to know all the neat things they have !

XO,
Jane

Kelly, first I have to say that I do have an embroidery machine, but I think these monogramed letters are great and what an easy way to get a great look less. I have used these before. I used them when it was impossible to hoop a bag that a friend wanted her initial on. I always try to keep my cost down, but I know that most places that monogram do charge very high prices.
Your little lavender sachets look great...love them in the bowl! And the D's are going to look awesome on your chair covers!
hugs,
Cindy

Oh those are so cute....what a great alternative to having them sewn on!!! You could use fabric paint on the letters for your dining room chairs if you didn't want to dye them. I will no longer be buying anything from Hobby Lobby due to the stance they have taken on not paying for birth control for their employees. How very sad that they feel the need to push their religious views off on their employees! @@

fantastic. I didn't know HL had them. Your lavender bags look great with the addition of them!

I love the idea of adding the letters to the backs of your chair slipcovers! But if you start wearing a large K on short, tight sweaters, you've gone too far.

I agree with Jane, Hob Lob is so big, that it's hard to see everything they have in the store. So glad I have people like you to show me neat things like this!! I had no idea they even made stuff like this. It's very helpful for people like me who can't even sew on a button. :) Love your idea of putting them on your slipcovers!

Great idea! I loved seeing your 'messy' couch! Keeping it REAL since I never see messes at your place!!

Hi, I have used the monograms on pillowslips that I crocheted an edging on as gifts for my family. They look lovely on the lavender sachets! Thanks for reminding me that these exist.

Cheers, Trish

I recently bought some also, to put on burp cloths for my grand babies . If I don't get busy, they will be too big! Love shopping at Hobby Lobby and supporting a Christian business! Thanks for your always wonderful ideas!

OMGosh! How did I miss those at HL? I LOVE monograms! Your lavender sachets look great on your coffee table, and thanks for the tip to use fabric glue. As for making them darker...maybe tea or coffee dying might work?
I'm checking these out next week when I go to Hobby Lobby. Thanks!

I think they might look nice on the chairs even if they don't pop off and stand out... just a subtle detail :)
