Modern Farmhouse

Hello everyone!

I mentioned in my last post about some of the elements I choose to decorate my home with. One of them is the contrast between elegant and rustic.  The other one is modern textiles and farmhouse style.  They don't sound like they would go together at all, but in a weird way they do!  I think it's the mix that makes them interesting.  If I used only modern items, it would not suit me.  However, throwing in a little bit of it with some of the casual rustic quality of farmhouse style is a pleasing mix to me.

Here in my kitchen, I have a mostly farmhouse style.

However, I love using the modern draperies on the windows.

In the cooking area, I have modern stainless steel appliances mixed with a farmhouse style sink skirt and then a modern black and white rug.

In my family room, I've chosen many modern style pillows to accent a traditional white slip covered sofa.

Under foot, I've chosen a modern style rug.

And one of my floor lamps is a bit modern in the room too.

Back in my sitting room, I have a painted antique secretary which is far from modern!

But then on a chair nearby, is this modern black and white pillow.

And finally, in the foyer, I have a geometric patterned rug near an old chippy painted porch post column.

I think the way to make it work is that you keep the same color palette for both styles.  It all seems to work together in a way that keeps the room feeling fresh and interesting.

So, what do you think about this combination?  It may not be for everyone, but it's definitely fun to experiment with.

Hope you all have a great weekend!  I'm going to miss not using my alarm clock next week since Spring break will be over then.

I think it is PERFECT- you haven't "overdone" anything - it's stylist, cool and works awesome together - seriously, it is just perfect (for me at least.)

Have a great weekend, Kel.

Your decor is so pretty, Kelly! I love adding modern! I agree, it keeps things fresh and interesting...not like grandma's vintage (even though I am a grandma of nine lol)!

Kelly you are so correct. To me it's the intruique created in the combination of old and the new, the sleek and the rustic that makes an interesting home. Love your choices,

If I had to describe my style, it would be modern farmhouse, so this appeals to me. Of course, with a log cabin it's a challenge :)

(Looks like the spammer is back).

You do such a wonderful job of mixing the different styles! It's not easy and your house flows seamlessly! I think I told you before, but I just love the curtains in your breakfast room! They look so amazing in there!

You've certainly got the knack for mixing it all up and coming up with a home that flows beautifully from room to room, Kelly. The graphic black and white adds a fun fresh vibe to your home!
