A Family Get Together - Home Tour

Hello everyone!

Last weekend, I went to a family get together at my husband's cousin's house.  We had a lot of fun and ate some homemade BBQ!  Yum!  His cousin's name is Kim and she had her house all decked out for Christmas.  I thought I'd show you around.

Her siding is grey (not blue like it looks here).  Some of my pictures didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.  I was taking them quickly and there were a lot of people around.  So pardon my poor picture quality.

Come on in!

Isn't her front door pretty?

Here, her banister is all decked out with a beautiful garland and bows.

Just inside the foyer is this lovely secretary.

She has three Christmas trees in her house!  One of them is in her dining room off the foyer.

This is her feminine, elegant tree.

Take a look at all the yummy desserts on her sideboard too.

Let's go into the kitchen now.

Look at this cute tree decorated in Coca-Cola ornaments.  Her husband works for Coke, so it was only appropriate to have a tree like that somewhere in her house.

She had this beautiful poinsettia arrangement on the center of her kitchen table.

This pretty plate rack hangs on the wall beside her table. Love that red transferware!

Look at this pretty black and white toile window treatment above the kitchen sink too.

And have you ever seen a prettier door leading into the garage from the kitchen before?

This was a cute display set up on her hutch cabinet.

You're probably wondering where all the good food is.  It's over on the counters.  We served buffet style!

This is just a smidgen of what was served.  It was all so good.

In the family room, she has yet another tree!

This was a live tree too.  Isn't the shape perfect?  This one is filled with handmade ornaments from the kids and keepsake ornaments from over the years.  Very cute!

The mantel was so pretty too.  I hate that my photo didn't turn out well, but I wanted to show it anyway.

She had a lot of candies and cookies out for everyone to enjoy too.

And last, but not least, was her pretty powder room.

Do you see that glass block with lights in it on the counter?  That is such a cute idea.  It looks like a present all lit up.

Hope you enjoyed the tour.  She lives in Newnan, GA and we visit her about twice a year.  She has a beautiful pavilion out back with a fireplace that I forgot to get a picture of.  Darn!  Maybe next time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Came Early!

Hello everyone!

I was just so excited and HAD to share my newest piece of furniture for my foyer.  I found this antique solid pine chest of drawers at a consignment shop.  I had a sizable credit that paid for most of it.  So, it just happened to come home with me as an early Christmas present.

What do you think?

Remember, I used to have a small slip covered chair in here.  Now I have this gorgeous chest (with added storage).

Sorry, if I sound a little giddy, but I am!

I brought it home and instantly decorated it for Christmas!  I stored the little table, that was in here, in the basement for the time being.  It will come back out after the Christmas tree is put away.

I have a thing for antique chest of drawers (if you haven't noticed by now).  Lets see, I have one in my sitting room, one in my family room, one in my bedroom and NOW one in my foyer!

This one WILL NOT be painted like the others though!  No sirree!  This one has a beautiful golden patina and I love it just the way it is.

OK, now I'm going to go blog hopping.  I have been so busy this weekend and I've missed visiting everyone.

Thanks for stopping by!

Checking Off My Christmas List

Hello everyone!
I am starting to come to the end of my "to do" list for Christmas.  Finally!

 The stockings are hung.
I just added some wooden letters to them and used silver glitter to make them sparkle!

The presents are wrapped.
Well, for the most part.  At least the kids presents are.  Still have some "Santa" presents in hiding to take care of.

The cookies are baked.
I made a batch of chocolate peppermint, chocolate chip and snicker doodle cookies.

Tomorrow, we're going to a  Christmas gathering with my husband's extended family.  We're going to be eating good 'ol BBQ!

How about you?  How is your Christmas list coming along?

Thanks for stopping by!

Cabinet Makeover

Hello everyone!
You may recall that I  had a cabinet in my kitchen with a rooster and flowers painted on it. When I first spotted it, I was smitten!  Well lately, since I've been changing the look of my home, I'm not so smitten anymore.  I wanted to update it, so I painted over it using the same grey paint I used elsewhere in my home. I also used a dark wax to age it some more and protect the top.  Can you tell I really like that color?

Here is what it looks like now.

Here is what it once looked like.

I enjoyed it with the rooster on it for years.  I used to decorate with roosters A LOT!  Now.....this one was the last to fly the coop!

Of course, with new paint, came some more redecorating.  I added some Christmas decor to the top of the cabinet.

I changed my centerpiece on the table too.  A simple lantern with a candle and greenery fit the bill!

I ended up hanging my bread boards up on the wall in place of some pictures.  They got a little Christmas greenery added to them as well.

My dog's stocking got some greenery too and moved over to the towel bar.

I'll be wrapping and baking later this week.  I'm looking forward to the smell of cookies in the oven and pretty packages under the tree!

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Snapshots

I thought I'd share just a few snapshots of Christmas decor around the house that I haven't shown you yet.

I don't have a very large dining room, so I keep my decor to a minimum in there.  I added a nature inspired Santa to my sideboard.

He is standing amongst some Christmas greenery and antlers.  Yes, that's right.  Antlers, not reindeer.  Something seems wrong with this picture, doesn't it?

His colors match my Christmas decor perfectly.  I found him packed away in my basement when I was cleaning it out.  Glad I found him!

I added nothing more than simple greenery around my glass jug on the table.  Ahhh....simplicity!

In my family room, I hung a wreath on my armoire that holds vintage books.

I adorned the wreath with burlap ribbon, white and silver ornaments and a feathery friend.  This continues my nature inspired Christmas theme this year.

I found a vintage inspired Noel sign to hang on my chest too. I love touches of silver glitter.

Another find from my basement was this prelit little Christmas tree.  I found the perfect place for it in my foyer near the skirted table.  I love how it lights up that area at night.  I wrapped some burlap around the base and left the tree unadorned.

Since I cleaned out my basement, I took a lot of things to a consignment store to sell. Of course, while I was there,  I had an obligation to look around.  Don't we all?  I found one thing that I just had to bring home.  This sweet little tree wrapped in burlap.

He fits perfectly on my kitchen counter next to my sink.  I tied a red ribbon around him and now he's set!

I've just about finished my Christmas shopping.  I still have stockings to buy for and my dog!  Ha! I am ready to start wrapping gifts soon.  I'm just waiting on some bakers twine to be delivered.  I'm going to be wrapping my gifts in brown Kraft paper and other neutral solid shades with twine and ribbon.  I found the cutest little gift tags at World Market the other day.  I will be tying those on to the gifts.  I'll share them with you once they're complete.

What Time is It?

I decided to redo the large clock that was hanging in my hallway.  Ever since I painted the walls white, I wanted a black clock to hang there.  I decided to just repaint an existing clock to save money.  I have several large clocks around the house anyway and felt like I could afford to just revamp one of them instead.

First let me show you the end result.

Now, I know you see the uneven numbers already.  Lesson to be learned here, be very careful where you place your 4 main numbers (12, 3, 6, 9).  They must be perpendicular to each other first.  Did I do that step first?  No, I did not! Am I sorry now?  Yes, I am!  Luckily, this clock hangs in a hallway and not in a place of prominence where the mistake is as obvious.  Ha!

So, let me show you how I did this.

Here is what I started with.  My non-black clock.

After leaving tape marks where the numbers should go (ha!),  I painted it black using craft paint.  It took a couple of coats.

Then, I painted the hands white.

I used a stencil to paint the numbers on with white craft paint.  I messed up on the 3, that is why it is missing.  In hindsight, I should have used a ruler and done the main numbers first.

I just used a paint brush to make lines between the numbers.  I didn't even use the correct amount of lines.  I told you this clock "ain't" perfect!

Then I stenciled on some lettering and painted over it in white craft paint.

And here it is hanging on the wall in my hallway!  I guess I could always go back and realign the main numbers, but I probably won't.  Luckily, no one really stands in the hallway long enough to see the mistakes.  It's just a pass-through.
