My Favorite Design Elements

Hello everyone!

Now that the Christmas decorations have been packed away and the clouds in the sky have parted, I took inventory of the things in my family room that give it the look that I like.  They overlap into other rooms in my house as well.

Even though I change things up a good bit, these things stay constant.

For example, I love a grouping of greenery somewhere.  Here I placed several small potted plants in a galvanized tray on my coffee table.

I love topiaries and weathered wood as displayed on my mantel.

I have an affinity for white dishes.  They don't have to be old and expensive either.  I just like the look.
(Sorry for the glare in this photo.)

I love a painted floor clock.  It also doesn't have to be an original Mora clock either.

With having a mostly grey and white color palette, I find there is a need for texture somewhere.  This wicker trunk fits the bill perfectly.

I've kept accessories very simple and neutral as well.  This moss ball brings another layer of texture too.

I like the contrast between this glitzy chandelier

and this coffee table with chippy paint.

I also like a few glass items since they add a touch of airiness to the room.

And finally, I always have a spot for throws to cover up with at night.
These get used quite a bit!

So, there you have it.  An inventory of items I'm drawn to and have collected for this space.

Do you have a certain look that you're drawn to as well?

Thanks for stopping by.

~ Kelly ~

I simply adore your coffee table and these potted plants look simple, but amazing! I am planning to put a group of herbs next to my sink in the kitchen.

It is so pretty!! I feel as if I could just walk right in and sit right down and here you come with cups of coffee!!
I like warm and cozy. My only white room is my bedroom.....and it FEELS warm and cozy. As does YOUR white rooms!
Nothing in my house is really expensive and I have a tendency to use what I have or what I find in thrift stores. Seldom do I shop for a specific item.....but I did shop and buy a rug for the hall last year.
I do so love your slipcovers!

I think your room looks lovely and taking an inventory of your likes is a good way to keep true to your style. I'm working on that currently by weeding out items that don't fit my style. I really like your chunky coffee table. I have a temporary one in our living room that I painted white but I am keeping an eye out for a narrow one with a wood top.

This is such a pretty room, Kelly. I love how the winter light is coming in. I noticed your cafe curtains and I just love how they look here, not girly or frilly. I really fuss over curtains!

You are getting me in the mood to start sprucing up rooms now that I have my holiday stuff put away!!

XO,
Jane

I love the way you add texture with wicker and chippy wood, and color with pops of natural green in your plants.

Your home style is very appealing and filled with warmth. In the morning I'm going to post about six new trends for 2014. Some will probably surprise you as it surprised me. And one is a hot color, and no, it isn't the Pantone color of the year. Every time I see your rooms, I can imagine I'm there with you in that cozy room. Your home is a reflection of you.

It's a very pretty room, Kelly. I haven't done a thing here since de-decorating. Time to spruce things up. While I like your tone-on-tone with texture, I am drawn to more colour in my own place. Time for some new, sunny cushions for the blue sofas.
