An Early Christmas Present and Gifted Artwork

Hello everyone!

This post should probably be titled "How Many Times a Family Room can be Made Over".  Ha!  I keep making changes and it's getting hard for even me to keep up!  However, this time I made a BIG change and it will probably not get changed up for a long time now.  The reason it probably won't be changed up as often is because of a new piece of furniture I got as an early Christmas present from my husband.  I have been wanting a new sofa for a long time.  I wanted one with a custom slipcover so it would be easier to live with and one that was comfortable and well made.  So, I went to Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams and found one.  Let's take a peek, shall we?

Now, you may be thinking it is a sectional.  But upon further inspection, you will see it is not!

You see, I got a new sofa (83") and just added it to my existing sofa (which happens to be the same size).  Now, it looks like a sectional and gives us plenty of room to stretch out and relax in the evening.  Plus, when I have company, there is more seating than there was.

My old sofa is very well made by Sherrill and is still comfortable and sturdy but just isn't pretty without it's slipcover.  So, I decided to keep both of them.  Whose great idea was this?  Well, my 14 yr old son suggested it!  Can you believe it?  I had already planned on just replacing it but I tried his idea and loved it immediately.  So, now, I may need to get ANOTHER matching Mitchell Gold sofa to replace my old one.  Because I love the extra seating now!

I mentioned that I received something from my sister in my last post.  She surprised me with this beautiful extra large cow picture from Antique Farmhouse!

I wasn't sure where I was going to use it at first, but then it ended up on the mantel and set the tone for the whole room.  It makes a great focal point and the soft colors are perfect in here.

I made some changes in the glass cabinet as well.

A few new pillows and a black pharmacy lamp got added to the room too.

I moved this chair over to the corner and another floor lamp was placed beside it.

So, I'm loving my new sofa and artwork and feel like this room is almost complete now.

Oh, and let me tell you something funny.  I ordered a slipcovered sofa but when we set this one up, I noticed how perfect the fabric was and wondered why they suggested that a salesperson come out and steam it etc.  Then, I lifted up the cushion and saw there was no slipcover on the sofa.  It was tailored! So, I called the salesperson I had been dealing with and she apologized profusely.  They will have to come pick this one up and replace it with the correct one.  They will not charge us for that either.  So, I'm back to waiting on a sofa to be delivered again.  It will take several weeks but in the meantime they told me to keep this one while I'm waiting.  I'm keeping a cloth over the seat cushions to keep it clean.

If you are interested in a great sofa, you should try Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams! Did you know they used to make furniture for Pottery Barn?   Their furniture is made of real wood and is eco friendly.  It doesn't let off harmful gases into your home (like some do).  Also, they offer a lifetime warranty on all of their furniture so if something should happen to it, they will replace it at no charge!  Love that!   I am not being compensated for this.  These are my own opinions.

I hope you enjoyed my LATEST change up in this room and managed to get through this "wordy" post without falling asleep.

Have a great weekend!

~ Kelly ~

Love the new sofa! It's so much fun to get new furniture! I remember how happy I was to get rid of that dark leather we used to have. Your son had such a great idea too! Love your choice to keep them both! We broke down last year and actually got a really large sectional for our family room and we've been loving it, having family movie nights, etc. Still, I miss my old white slipcovered couch and love seat! So I totally get why you love this look! The artwork works great on your mantel, just the right size. Have a great weekend! xoKathleen

I often listen to my guys opinions on things decor related. Good call Will! I love the look of two sofas and you are right that the extra seating is great. My sister/bff has our same heritage leather sofa but chose two of them in a different leather plus a large chair. Love the cow surprise from Kim, and she picked the perfect pallete for you. Hope you have a great week, Kelly.
