New Sign and Pillow

Hello everyone!

How is your week going so far?  Mine is going well.  It's another hot one in Atlanta!  I keep seeing Fall decor inspiration on blogs and Instagram but can't imagine bringing mine out any time soon.  Hopefully, it won't be too much longer, though, since college football starts this weekend.  My husband is VERY excited about that.  (Go Dawgs!)  That makes me excited for Fall festivals, sitting around a fire pit (which my husband still promises me he will build), the smell of burning leaves in the subdivision, and looking at the pretty Fall colors once the leaves change.

I wanted to show you this pretty (and unique) pillow that I bought the other day.  It's handmade from Lavender and Grace.  I discovered them from Instagram.  You can visit her Etsy site HERE.

French Farmhouse Guest Room for One

Hello everyone!

TGIF!  I thought I would share some changes I made to my very seldom used small guest room.  It's actually where a lot of my stuff gets used that I still like but don't have a place for anywhere else.  Doesn't everyone have a room like that?  Luckily, I have a lot to choose from since I'm always replacing things around the house.

I've shared this room before, but it looked slightly different then.

Share Your Style Party #80

Welcome to the 80th Share Your Style Party.

My name is Lynn, of The Vintage Nest blog, and I am your hostess this week.  Did you grow a bounty of veggies, herbs and flowers this summer?  I am still working on roasting 50 pounds of tomatoes for this winter's table.  The added garlic and basil has made the house smell delicious.

Now on  to the party.  We are a group of 5 bloggers who host this party so when you join in with your link you will be seen in many places.  We adore seeing all your wonderful inspiration and love it when you join in.

Country French Magazines

Hello everyone!

I hope that you had a good weekend.  Mine was relaxing.  No projects this time!  I did manage to find some good magazines to soak up this weekend.  I thought you might enjoy them too.

I noticed that a lot of new magazines were hitting the shelves since Fall  is around the corner.  These magazines caught my eye.

Fireplace Makeover

Hello everyone!

I recently took a risk and did something drastic with my fireplace.  If you follow me on Instagram, then you already know what I did.  It's funny because I am not a risk taker in life, but I am in decorating.  Guess I trust my own instincts when I have control over something but not when I turn something over to someone else.  So, first of all,  I asked my husband what he thought of me doing this before I actually did it.  Because there was no going back after I did this project.  He surprised me with positive feedback.  So, I immediately started looking at tutorials and pictures of the finished product from those that had done this before me.  I was very excited to read that it was very simple.  Nothing special needed to be done.  I already had the supplies on hand to do this.  So no money was spent!

Okay, here is the before picture.

How I Take Care of My Slipcovers

Hello everyone!

Nowadays, many people have slip covers on their furniture.  It's a stylish look and practical to live with.  I personally wouldn't have my furniture any other way.  I have slip covers on my family room furniture, kitchen chairs, dining chairs, and other furniture around the house.  I am a huge fan of bright white classic slip covers.  Some people may think that would be difficult to live with but for me, it's not at all.  I once had a red slip cover on a chair and it started fading after washing it and after the sun did a number on it.  So, white is actually better than a colored slip cover. It also allows me to use other accent colors in the room more easily.

Here is how I clean my slipcovers. (Mine are made from cotton denim.)

I am not a Fresh Flower Snob

Hello everyone!

Fresh flowers are always nice.  Fresh flowers smell good.  But................
fresh flowers don't last!

I use flowers as part of my decor, not just as something nice that I found while out shopping one day.  My biggest complaint is from those that think that all flowers used in your home should be fresh.  Really?  Well, luckily, I don't share that mind set.  I have a good eye for artificial "real-looking" flowers.  Most of the time, people don't even know that mine aren't real.  I've even had people come over and gasp at my flowers and ask if they were real.  I'm not a snob about very many things.  I'm not a "true" collector and I don't have to have expensive name brands to make me happy.  So, why should my flowers be any different?

Planked Wall Reveal!

Hello everyone!

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you've probably already seen this wall.  We still need to add the base board to the bottom, but otherwise it's done.  So, when you see the unpainted part at the very bottom, don't gasp!

How To Plank A Wall

Hello everyone!

Well, we finally did it!  I have long admired the look of planked or ship lapped walls for bringing that farmhouse look into a home ever since I first saw the show, Fixer Upper.  But, once I saw it in person at a friends house, I knew I really wanted to do it in mine.  I discovered, a little goes a long way.  So, my husband and I decided to do an accent wall in our front sitting room.  It's a plain wall with not much furniture on it and could use a little interest.

So, if you're interested in the tutorial with lots of pics, then continue reading!

First, my husband measured the wall and then went to a hardware store for sheets of plywood.  He got enough to cover the wall.  The store would've been able to cut the plywood into planks, but their saw was not measuring accurately (so they said).  So, we had to bring it home and do it ourselves.  But, I highly recommend having someone else do this part if you can!!!
