Authentic German Grain Sack Pillow

Hello everyone!

Not long ago, I was fortunate enough to sell a lot of stuff at a consignment store which allowed me some extra spending money. I chose to buy my first authentic German grain sack pillow with it.  I have been wanting one for a very long time.  I have some reproductions, but I really wanted a REAL one.

Share Your Style Party #15

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Share Your Style this week.  I'm so glad that you decided to join us again.  This week, Ron from The Uptown Acorn is your host.

Hi y'all!

It's my turn again to host this great weekly soiree. I hope you will continue to Share Your Style with us.

I spent the Memorial Weekend in my "happy place", Grand Isle. The unofficial start of summer is here, and I am most excited that my summer will be here in just two days.

This is me and my cousin Monique outside Kajun Kastle at age 7, 40 years ago!!!! Do you like my flowered raft???

Do you have summer plans? This summer I have trips planned to Perdido Key, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. I cannot wait to share the adventures of Uptown Acorn coming soon....

Thanks to all of you who shared your style with us last week. Here are a few of my favorites:

Southern State of Mind shared her beautiful foyer transformation.

You must see this chair redo from Decor to Adore.

I am a lover of white flowers and silver. Ramon of Rowhouse Blog shared his favorite combination with us.

Meatloaf and Melodrama shared this idea for summer cookies, flip flops. I adore these so much. Brilliant!

Who doesn't love a good summer cocktail? Life In My Empty Nest shared the delicious sounding Simple Cranberry Margarita. Cheers!

A Country Wedding Part Two

Hello everyone!

Here are the rest of the pics from the wedding we went to last weekend.  If you missed part one, it is the post just prior to this one.

We headed downstairs to the reception being held in the barn.  Everything was very rustic!

A Country Wedding Part One

Hello everyone!

My husband and I went to a wedding over the holiday weekend.  I love sharing pics from a wedding because there are always so many great ideas shown.  I'm a romantic at heart too, so I enjoy going to weddings as well.  This wedding was for the daughter of a firefighter friend of my husband.  We have known his family for many years and were so honored to be a part of their big day.  She just graduated college at UGA and her husband recently graduated from Ga Tech!  Hmmmmm........and they actually like each other!  LOL!  For those of you that don't live in GA, those are big football team rivals!  Anyway, they have a wonderful future planned.  They will move to Texas, where the groom has a job lined up as a chemical engineer, and she will be an interior decorator with the degree she just earned.  Pretty exciting huh?

As we approached the venue, Sanctuary Plantation, we followed the sign to the ceremony.

A Summery Bedroom

Hello everyone!

Well, I did it again.  I changed a few things in my bedroom.  The reason?  Well, since my walls are white and my draperies are neutral, and the bedding is white, it's just so darn easy to do!  I could come up with just about any color scheme I wanted to in here and just by changing a few pillows and accessories it wouldn't cost much.  So, that's what I did in my bedroom for the summer.

This time I added some cherry and pink.  I don't want anything fussy just simple cottage style with a summery feel.  I think I got it.

Share Your Style Party #14

Hello everyone!

I hope you're having a good week so far.  I'm really enjoying seeing what everyone links up every week.  There is just so much creativity out there.  This week, Martina with Northern Nesting is your host!

Playing with my New Camera

Hello everyone!

Well, I finally got one!  I have my very first DSLR camera now.  It is so much fun to use but a lot of work trying to learn!  My husband surprised me the other morning with this Nikon D3300 camera.  He bought the kit with it so it included a strap, carrying case, wifi card to download pics to our phones etc.  He even bought me a tripod!  So, needless to say, I have been knee deep in learning how to use this thing!  It's much more complex than my little point and shoot that I had for years.

We've been reading the manual, watching You Tube videos about it, and watching DVD material sent with the camera.  We've been learning new terms like ISO, aperature, effects, exposure compensation etc.

Here are some pics taken with my new camera.

April Showers brought May Flowers

Hello everyone!

We had a very rainy April!  It was one of the wettest months on record.  However, May has been pretty dry.  We are now enjoying the flowers that the rains from April helped produce!  I thought I would share some views around my front yard.  My back yard is blooming too, but I'll share that another time.

First of all, I'm very pleased with how our grass is doing.  This is the time of year when it looks the best.  Once the rain slows down, it starts to fade.

Painted Chest in the Foyer

Hello everyone!

I loved the color of the clock so much (from this post)  that I decided to add it to the chest of drawers in my foyer too.  However, I didn't really paint the whole thing.  I just dry brushed the blue paint over the grey so it instantly gave it an aged look. No wax was necessary.

Here is the before:

My Painted Clock

Hello everyone!

As promised, I am sharing the details to my painted clock.  I've had the clock for several years.  It was originally a cream color.  After changing my color scheme to mostly grey and white, I painted it grey.  It looked like this.

I'm Hooked!

Hello everyone!

There is a reason for this post.  But, most importantly, there is a reason for what you'll see IN this post.  The reason?  It's all because of this blog!  You see, Sally shared a fabulous find on her blog recently.  It completely swept me off my feet so I just HAD to go check it out further.  What was it that she found?

This!

How to Make Homemade BBQ on the Grill

Hello everyone!

With the warmer weather finally upon us, I hereby declare it "grilling season"!  One of my family's favorite things to eat is barbecue sandwiches.  My husband loves to grill out and last Sunday smoked a Boston Butt on our Weber grill all day in order to make barbecue sandwiches that night.  Yum!  Here are the instructions if you would like to give it a try.

Weekend Recap

Hello everyone!

How was your weekend?  I hope you had a good one.  Mine was really wonderful.  Why?  Because my whole family was together and we celebrated a birthday, and did projects around the house and cooked some great food.  Oh, and did I mention that it was the prettiest outside that's its been in weeks?  So, I just had to share a few photos of our fun weekend.

On Friday, I did a little shopping and found some pretty blue paint (that I will share with you in another post).  I decided to buy a sample pot and paint my clock with it.

Morning Sunshine in the Dining Room

Hello everyone!

This weekend is going to be beautiful here in Georgia.  No more rain and lots of sunshine and warm temps are finally here!  It will be a busy weekend here too.  Tomorrow, we'll be celebrating my youngest son's 14th birthday.  We'll also be celebrating Mother's Day (early) with my MIL.  On Sunday, my husband is planning on grilling all day (which I'll share with you).  It is one of our favorite things to eat and it has to cook all day.  Yum!  Be on the lookout for that soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to share some of these rays of sunshine shining in my dining room today.  It gets the most sun of all of my rooms.
