A Sunny Bedroom

Hello everyone!

Well, it didn't take long for me to move my yellow accents to another room in my house.  I decided to try out my yellow pillows and throw in my bedroom.  I also moved some yellow accents in to my bathroom.  And to my surprise.............I love them in there!

My New Appliances are Installed!

Hello everyone!

Well, I'll tell you what.  It was a crazy afternoon yesterday.  The appliance delivery people arrived and I had to call my husband home from work so he could be here to disconnect our current appliances and reconnect the new ones.  We were trying to save money by doing it ourselves.  Well, my husband didn't have his cell phone on him at the time, so I kept trying to reach him to tell him that he needed to come home because they were on their way.  Then they arrived and he still wasn't here and never answered his phone!  So, long story short,  he did make it home in time and spent a long time getting everything set-up.  But there was one problem, our refrigerator is HUGE!  It sticks out further than our other one.

So, we may decide to send it back and pay more for a counter depth refrigerator.  My kitchen cooking area is not very large.  So, every inch counts!  We will go looking tomorrow at possible alternatives.  Someone advised me that we should get one of those, but I never knew how much a difference it would make.  So, I should've listened to them.

Ok, enough with the drama.  Onto some pictures.

Kitchen Design

Hello everyone!

How is your week going so far?  Mine is going okay.  I ended up having the root canal, yesterday, that I had hoped I wouldn't have to have.  I went to the dentist for my permanent crown to be put on and he decided to send me to an endodontist first to rule out needing a root canal.  I didn't know that it's very challenging to do a root canal with a crown on.  I thought they could just pop it off and do the work and then put it back on.  But that's not the case.  They have to drill through the crown which could then crack it and cost me having to pay for another crown all together!  So, I went to the endodontist and he told me that I was at the very beginning stages of having my tooth go bad.  That's why it wasn't killing me but rather giving me signals that it wasn't right.  If I wasn't going to have a crown, I could've delayed this procedure.  But all in all, it would eventually need to be done.  So......... this one tooth has cost me a LOT of money!  After having the crown and root canal, I've used up my dental insurance benefits for the year.  That's okay though.  I don't WANT to have any more dental work for a long time now!

Ok, enough about that.  I am so excited to be getting my new range and refrigerator delivered this week - FINALLY!  I would've gotten it sooner, but my husband has to be home to install them and his schedule and the store's delivery schedule never worked out till this week.

This is the LG gas range with convection oven I will be getting.

Fireplace Makeover

Hello everyone!

As I mentioned in my last post, I did something bold to my family room.  I painted my fireplace mantel black!  I also continued the color into the mirror above it.  I wanted my fireplace to make more of a statement in the room.  It seemed squished between the two armoires on each side of it so I think this did the trick!

My Son's Bedroom Makeover

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to report that my teenage son's bedroom is finally done!  Unfortunately, I didn't take any "before" pics to show you though.  Bad blogger!  So, I'll just tell you how it looked before and then you can compare it to the pictures.

It started out with light blue walls, red bed frame and dresser, and lots of Legos in bookcases. This was a difficult room to do.  He had a lot of furniture that we needed to use in a small space.  Luckily, he has a twin bed so it didn't take up too much room.

The first thing we did was get rid of the wall of bookcases FILLED with Lego creations!  We gave them to a friend of ours that has a seven year boy.  Then, we painted his walls in a Linen White (from Benjamin Moore).  The chalkboard had to stay where it was because it is painted on the wall with chalkboard paint and a wooden frame was mounted to the wall.  We didn't want to have to remove that since it would be so much work.  So, we worked around it.

I took these pics at night, so unfortunately, you don't see the true wall color here. The last pic will show that though.

New Sofa and Chair

Hello everyone!

How is your Friday going so far?  I thought I would share my new sofa and chair that just arrived yesterday.  I'm so glad to finally have a custom slip covered sofa to replace my 20+ year old sofa that had a ready made slipcover on it.  It is nice to no longer worry about having such a disheveled looking sofa all the time.

It's Cold Outside but Sunny Inside!

Hello everyone!

Many years ago, I decorated with yellow.  I even had yellow walls!  After my love affair with lots of color was over, I transitioned to mostly neutrals, removing all hints of cheerful colors along the way.  But, recently, for some unexplained reason, I've come back to liking yellow again.  Only this time, not in heavy doses.  I'm using it in more purposeful ways just to bring some cheer into my spaces.  I'm also not mixing it with other bright colors.  I'm choosing to use it with my neutrals and lots of white.  So, now, it's not too much but just enough to liven up my spaces.  It's making me smile!  Yellow is a happy color, right?  Here are some photos of rooms around my house using this new happy color.

Share Your Style Party #51

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the 51st Share Your Style party!  I am still knee deep in painting and trying to get my son's room completed.  It's hard to work all of this around my husband's work schedule.  I've injured my hip so he is having to do most of the work.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying seeing what everyone else has been able to accomplish!  This week, Lynn from The Vintage Nest is your host.  She will be sharing some exciting news about our party too!

My Son's Bedroom Progress and Other Changes

Hello everyone!

What a busy weekend I had!  My husband painted our son's bedroom  and I painted his furniture.  We hung a new light fixture in there too.  That's about as far as we got!  I bought a new curtain rod, so we will hang drop cloths in there and we still have to put together his furniture (gaming desk and chair). Then we will arrange his furniture and can call it quits.

Here are some progress pics.
