New Lamp and Room Changes

Hello everyone!

Did you have a good weekend?  I managed to take some things to a consignment shop after cleaning my basement.  Gosh, it felt good to get rid of some things I was no longer using! That will really help me when I'm ready to decorate for the holidays.  I can finally get to all my boxes now.  LOL!

I wanted to share with you a new floor lamp in my family room.

Isn't it pretty????  I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.  It's from Better Homes & Gardens.  Yes, that means it came from Walmart!  I love the rustic look of it with the natural color of the shade.  I thought it worked well in my room with the grey and white and the stone in my fireplace.

Of course, with a new lamp, comes other changes to the room.  You know all about that don't you?  

I changed up my mantle to make it a little simpler.  I really missed my horse statue there, so I brought it back.

I flanked it with some potted faux paper whites.

I also switched around my pillows by adding some charcoal grey pillows to the chairs and sofa.

Now, where did the other stuff go?

The checked pillow is now in my sitting room.

And the wheat is now in my foyer.

My birdhouse is now in my sitting room too.  So, I didn't really remove any of my newest accessories.  They just landed in a different spot..........at least till the Christmas decorations come out!

Grey Roses and White Pumpkins

Hello everyone!

By now, you all know how much I love grey and white.  My whole house, with the exception of a few rooms upstairs, is wearing it.  So, when I came across this rose decorative object, I just had to grab it!

I love the texture and the subtle roses it has.

I believe it's made out of concrete, because it's heavy!

I sit in this chair every day, so I get to enjoy it a lot now!

Remember in my last post about wanting some little white pumpkins?  Well, I still haven't found them and may not since the season is winding down.  So, I decided to paint a small orange one that I had in my Fall bin in the basement.

Yep!  This will do the trick!  Simple and free too.

After it dried, I placed it on my mantel.

Isn't it cute?

So this will do, until I find the real thing!

Simple Fall Touches

Hello everyone!

Now that Halloween is over, I added just a few simple touches of Fall around the house.  I'm not a big Fall decorator, so these are just enough for now.

I added a wreath that I made last year to my front door.

This was such a simple wreath to make using Fall foliage, faux wheat and grasses, pheasant feathers and Spanish moss, and a small white pumpkin in the center.  All of this was easily attached to a plain grapevine wreath and hung by brown satin ribbon.

  

Let's go inside now.

I added a bouquet of dried wheat on the mantel.

I like the natural color it lends against all the grey and white.

My old book bundles compliment the wheat as well.  I would like to find some of those small white "boo" pumpkins (I think they're called) to add around the house too.  I need to look for some.

I can't believe that in less than a month, the Christmas season will already be upon us!  This year is really flying by.

Shopping at the Queen of Hearts

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a nice weekend.  

Last week, my mom and sister took me out for my birthday.  After lunch, we went shopping at an antique mall called The Queen of Hearts.  It's a very large store full of booths filled with all sorts of unique and interesting furniture and accessories.  Some are real antiques and others are reproductions.

I brought my camera so I could take you all along with me.  

As you can see, there was already a Christmas tree set up in this booth.

I have NO idea what that naked mannequin is!  I never noticed it until now.  LOL!

I know a lot of you love the bull heads or cow heads that people hang on their wall.  This one was almost $400 and was HUGE!  We laughed at how large it was and wondered where someone would dare hang it.  

Plenty of Christmas accessories were already out for sale.

I like how this dresser is painted.

Love these shutters!

These little whimsical carolers caught my eye.  I have one piece from this collection already.  Now I know where I can get more!

This was a fun booth to browse in.  It had a lot of pretty Christmas decor with a country flavor.

I fell in love with this clock!  It was huge, but too expensive for me.

We had a fun day shopping.  I didn't buy anything, but my sister did!  I think she'll be sharing it on her blog soon.

Trick or Treating Around the Neighborhood

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share a few pics from last night.  My son went trick or treating as a zombie doctor.

His costume came with a mask, but he decided not wear it since it was rather warm outside.  I think he had plenty on anyway.

This house ALWAYS goes all out for every holiday.  Doesn't every subdivision have at least one person that does that?  Well, this is the one in ours.  

I took these with my iPhone, so they're not the best.  There are LOTS of props and lights at this house.  They even light torches and play scary music.

Here, you can see the back of my son walking down their driveway.

There is a graveyard beside the driveway that is pretty interesting too. I wish the words were legible in my photo.

Here is the walkway leading to the porch.

There are mummy's, skeletons and witches here.

Here is a full house shot from the street.

The next house had a lot of creative grave stones in the yard.

And this scary guy.

Of course, we saw a lot of these blow-up decorations too.

My son came home with a huge bag of candy and then wanted to go back out for more!  At that point, we even took our dog with us.

This picture doesn't do it justice.  He already went through it and pulled out the pieces he didn't like or couldn't eat (because of his orthodontic device).  So, now, we have WAY too much in this house!  I think my husband will be taking some to work and I will be sending some to his teachers for prizes.  We didn't get too many trick or treaters this year, so I have left-over from that too.  

Anybody want some candy????

First Fire of the Season

Happy Halloween!

Can you believe that November starts tomorrow? This year is practically over.  However, cold weather is just now starting.

It has been fairly warm here lately, but not long ago, it was actually cold enough for a fire in the fireplace.  That's probably my favorite thing about cold weather.  I love having a fire going at night!

Luckily, we still have plenty of firewood leftover from last Winter. 

We love a real wood burning fire!  It can get messy sometimes, but that's ok.  There's nothing like the warmth of a blazing fire in the fireplace.

My New Finds

Hello everyone!

In my last post, I took you on a tour of the Country Living Fair.  Well, I wanted to show you what I brought home with me from that fair.  And boy, let me tell you, I could've brought home A LOT more if money was no object!  LOL!

This is the first thing I found.

There is a back story to this birdhouse.

This is a birdhouse that I actually once had outside on a post in my backyard!  It ended up deteriorating after many years, so we tossed it.  (I got it as a hostess gift for having a Southern Living at Home party at my house many years ago.  I mean MANY years ago!)  So, when I saw this one for sale, I decided to grab it. Only this time, I'm using it indoors.  This has already been used outdoors which is why you see some age on it.  That makes me love it even more though. 

I placed it on my fireplace mantel.

   

Next, I found this gorgeous grey and white checked pillow with a down insert.

I placed it in the center of my sofa.  That seems to be where all my favorite pillows land first!  

And finally, I found these pretty lavender bundles that are so fresh and smell heavenly.  

I placed them in a basket in my kitchen for now.  Not sure if that's where they'll stay though.

I would love to go back next year to get some items that I wasn't able to get this time around.  (If they're offered again.)  Many of the same vendors return each year, I'm told.
