Texture and Patina on the Mantel

Hello everyone!

I changed up my mantel decor this weekend after getting some inspiration from a new magazine that I received recently.  I've enjoyed reading it since I've been cooped up in the house due to the rain.  It has been so ugly outside.  So, what's a girl to do with all that time on her hands?  Why decorate of course!

I added some old books and a shoe mold to one side of the mantel.  I like the aged patina that it adds.

On the other side, I added some sea fans for texture.

Of course, I kept my feathers since I still love them.

I'm liking the new look!

The magazine that I received is this one.

It really embodies the look that I'm going for on my lower level.

One of the reasons that I wanted this particular issue is because of Caroline Verschoor's home being featured.  I have followed her for a while and love her style.

If you want this magazine, it has to be ordered online.  It is not available in stores.  I bought mine from French Larkspur.  Tracy has a wonderful blog and shop.   Tracy included a little french book page and sepia colored french postcard with my order too.  I love when someone adds those extra little touches!

Thanks for stopping by!

Farmhouse Finds

I wanted to share a few vignettes around my house that I put together using some new farmhouse finds.

First is this unique looking cow plaque.  It is framed in a barn gray looking frame with metal pieces in the corners.  I placed it in my dining room on my sideboard.  Then I accented it with some shed antlers.  I like the pop of gray that it brings to the room and I needed some more artwork in there anyway.

Next is this vintage shoe mold I found at an antique store.  I placed it in a vignette with a plant and small wicker jug.  I love the patina of the old wood and the numbers stamped on it.

I ordered this cute set of ticking striped tea towels from Pottery Barn a few weeks ago when they offered free shipping.  These are available online only.  I ordered the brown color without a monogram and hung it over a piece of burlap in my kitchen. The second one is in my powder room.

I changed up the vignette on my tea table in my sitting room too.  I like the neutral colors together with found objects. There is a turkey feather mixed in with the pheasant feathers that my husband found while camping in TN recently.  I told him he should've brought me more!  He didn't know I would love it so much.  Ha!

Since I live in the south, I'm very accustomed to finding pine cones in the yard, however, we don't find any that look like this.

These are called sugar cones and I am in love with them! They are lighter in color than pine cones and much much bigger.  I just placed these in this greenery just to see how they would look at Christmas time.  I have them on the mantel for now.

I figured they could be used during the winter months and especially during Christmas mixed in greenery.

I also wanted to let you know about a wonderful giveaway going on over at the A Beautiful Mess blog.  It's amazing and I think ALL of my readers would love to win it!  So go check it out.
