Wicker Rocking Chair

Hello everyone!

Recently, I took a lot of things to a local consignment store near me.  It's a new one so I took my time to look around while I was there.  I spotted this pretty painted wicker rocking chair almost immediately!  I immediately fell in love with it's lines and the ticking stripe fabric on it.  It was in mint condition too.  So.................it came home with me!  Cue the "I Feel Happy" music.  After getting it home, I played around with it in different areas.  Ultimately, though, it worked out best in my family room in place of another chair that was there.  That chair will now be sold at the same consignment store that this one came from.  So, it's a win-win!

This is how it looked when I first brought it home.

I loved the dark brown paint that was used on it, but it just didn't work well in my mostly white home.  It felt too dark.  So, with my husbands help to cover all of the fabric (because he's so good at that) I spray painted it a glossy white.  The seat cushion comes out thank goodness!

Here is what it looks like now.

Oh, and the very best part about this chair?  It's very comfortable!  My husband isn't a big fan of wicker for that reason, but with the extra thick cushion and upholstered back it is soft.  It's also very well made.  It doesn't "creak" when you sit in it like most wicker chairs.

Here is a view of the upholstered back.

I'm enjoying using this new consignment store and have already made some money too!

Do you like to shop at consignment stores?

Thanks for stopping by!

Great Finds at Michaels

Hello everyone!

Do you ever shop at Michael's craft store?  I do every now and then, but mostly for something specific.  The last time I went in there I was looking for something specific (which I didn't find).  So, I scoured the entire store in the process.  In doing so, I discovered a lot of nice things they had for sale!  I didn't know they had so many cute home accessories.  I always thought of them as mostly a craft store.

Here are a few things that ended up coming home with me that I found on sale.

The faux lambs ears plants I placed in this old milk crate.  Don't they look real?  They had big bouquets of this stuff marked 50% off!

Then, I found these cute little metal buckets with writing on them.  I used them on my mantel filled with some faux flowers.

The biggest surprise was when I spotted these cute pillows.  Did you know they sold pillows????  I sure didn't!

I found these cream colored grain sack style pillows.

They were 40% off.  I also found these pretty blue and white pillows.  I needed them to help bring more blue and white into my home.

These pillows are like two in one because one side is dark blue with white designs and the other side is white with blue designs.

I love that!  These were also 40% off.

I still need to share my family room changes with you.  Here is another peek at it.

Well, that's more than a peek!  See that white wicker rocking chair?  That's new.  It didn't look like that when I bought it either.  I will share more about that soon.

Oh, I wanted to show you something that I found but didn't buy at the store too.  These spray paint cans of Chalk Paint!  OMG!  I may have to give one of these a try.  They're expensive (for spray paint) but would be so much easier to use on hard to paint surfaces.

And I fell in love with this cute large lantern.  It's on sale for 50% off right now too.

So, next time you're out and about looking for home accessories, check your local Michaels craft store.  You won't be disappointed.

This was NOT a sponsored post.  Just my own shopping experience and opinions.

Thanks for stopping by!

Share Your Style Party #8

Hello everyone!
How is your week going so far?  My kids have been on Spring break this week so it has been nice to not have such a tight schedule.  My oldest son is out of town staying with a friend so I've hardly seen him this week.  We've been fortunate to have some sunny days too despite all of the rain that has been in the forecast.
Are you ready to share some good inspiration this week?  I always enjoy looking through what everyone links up.  You guys are all so talented!  This week, my good friend, Ron of Uptown Acorn is your host.
*******************************************

I hope all of you have had a great Easter week. I am sure that some of you are still enjoying your Spring break. I am back at school teaching the young minds who did this to my room as an April Fool's Day prank, Post-it Palooza.

I am very excited today as this is the very first time that I have hosted a link party. What makes me different from some of you is that I am a man (gasp!, I know,) The blogging world is filled with many darling ladies, and I try to bring a man's perspective to design and Southern style. I do love to decorate. I love to shop. I also love a cocktail or two. I appreciate the support that my little blog has been afforded over the past three years, and I hope you will follow me if you are not already doing so.

Uptown Acorn:
"I have a great life in the land of unique characters, fine food, creative cocktails, and southern design."

You can follow me through:

Here are various photos of my personal style:

Thanks to all of you for Sharing Your Style with us last week.

Ron's Featured Links:

Pam of Everyday Living shared some gorgeous Spring gardens. She and her husband are ready to tackle their property.

Kelli of 3 Boys and a Dog shared these darling Octopus Rice Krispie treats. The beach meets my fave Rice Krispie Treats. I'm sold.

My large Pottery Barn clock of over 10 years finally bit the dust, so I could use one of these knock-off by Mindi of My Love to Create. Mindi, are you listening?

I could certainly go for one of these fancy BLTs right now. Thanks for making my mouth water, Stephanie. Check out the BLT at This Abundant Life.

I hope you enjoyed these features. If you were one lucky enough to be featured at Share Your Style, please grab a button from my sidebar.

New Sign and Rug in the Foyer

Hello everyone!

It is Spring break here this week.  So, my schedule is probably going to be a little off.  But I wanted to share with you some new goodies that I found for my foyer recently.  I wasn't out looking for anything specific, but once I saw these and their low price, they came home with me.

My foyer got a touch of blue with this new sign.

It's actually a navy blue.  It's made of real wood and isn't perfect in shape or construction, but I guess that just adds to the charm right?  I found it at HomeGoods (of all places).

I like that it has a round shape for this space.

Here you can see a sneak peek into the family room with quite a few changes in there too!  I will share that later.  I have been very busy trying to get things placed where I want them and in the colors that I prefer.  It has been a slow process since deciding I wanted to add some color to my home.

Here is the other new item I got at HomeGoods.  This striped rug.

I loved it the minute I laid it down!  I have always had a plain cream colored rug in here.  So, it's nice to have this pattern and color in here now.

I like how the stripes add a subtle country style pattern too.

My chest of drawers got an accessory makeover as well.  I placed my vintage style bulb tray on top and added some topiaries and greenery to it.

It's a simple "garden" look.  I'm still enjoying a lot of rustic wood pieces throughout my home.

So, that's all I will share for now, but there is more.  I have been enjoying the process of making these changes, but THIS TIME I think I'm finally happy with them.  You know these things don't just happen overnight!  LOL!

Thanks for stopping by.

Accessorizing my Cabinet

Happy Easter Weekend!

I meant to post this yesterday, but my day got very busy.  I was getting prepared for Easter by doing a little bit of baking.

I decided to make some changes to the glass cabinet in my family room.  Since everything else changed around in here, why should this cabinet be left out right?

For the longest time, it has been filled with white serving pieces.  But, I decided to throw a little bit of blue color in with it to freshen it up.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of glare from the window nearby.  Sorry about that.  But, hopefully, you can see past that.  I added some of my blue and white grain sacks under a tureen.

And a blue and white striped throw under another one.

Then I added this blue fabric covered box in place of another tureen.

Here is a shot with the door open so there isn't so much glare.

I love this little bit of color in here to tie in with the rest of the room.

I have still been experimenting with furniture placement, color schemes etc. in this room.  I am getting closer to finally being happy with it!  I'm so indecisive.  Hopefully, I'm not boring you to death with all of my repetitive changes.  At least you can see how many options I can choose from!

Oh, and here is what I baked for our Easter celebration this weekend.

Coconut Cake

Chocolate Cupcakes (topped with Easter candy)

We will be celebrating with my husband's family.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter and are getting some pretty weather as well.

Thanks for stopping by!

Share Your Style Party #7

Hello everyone!

We are gearing up for Spring break here next week.  Is it me or is this year already going by way too fast?  I think it's because Easter is a bit early this year.  Whatever it is, I'm not complaining though about the fact that Spring is already here though.  It is so nice to be able to go outside without bundling up.

It has been so much fun getting to look at everyone's Spring projects right now.  There is so much inspiration out there!  So, let's see what you're working on now.

Amanda from Dixie Delights is your host this week.

It's time for another Share Your Style party!!!  A big thank you goes out to each and every one of you who have joined in so far.  Each week one of your hosts will take a turn choosing the features, and then ALL EIGHT of us will share them on our blogs for tons of exposure.
